Dear all, a special issue devoted to the relationship between politics and digitization from a theoretical perspective of the Zeitschrift für Politikwissenschaft <https://www.springer.com/journal/41358> (ZPol) will be published in autumn 2021 under the title "Political Theory of the Digital Constellation". The contributions will critically examine the relationship between political theory and digitalization in diachronic reconstruction, synchronous analysis and normative perspective, reflect on existing normative positions and integrate the findings of other disciplines – such as Science & Technology Studies or the philosophy of technology – into political science research in order to contribute to a Political Theory of the digital constellation. Most of what I have been able to find comes from either the EU or news agencies. So wished to see if someone knew a bit more about people working in this field? Hello I am genuinely curious about how the ethics of research on available personal data is implemented. As a relatively new academic I would love to do this type of research but see many ethical hurdles. I have stuck to the organizational level rather than looking at data at the level of individuals, which to me is fraught with ethical data extraction and exploitation issues. When Clearview AI used data on publicly available images, many of us said it was unethical. I have always wondered how a research study such as the infamous gaydar experiment passed ethics protocols at a reputable post secondary academic institution. https://thenextweb.com/artificial-intelligence/2018/02/20/opinion-the-stanf… And from studies such as the one done recently by Mozilla https://www.zdnet.com/article/mozilla-research-browsing-histories-are-uniqu… indicating an individual is identifiable for 50-150 favorite sites, "no exposure of any identifying information" is a meaningless phrase. The US doesn't, and AFAIK there's little clear case law that applies to individuals' presence in research datasets. If someone asks me to remove their data from my datasets, I'm happy to do so, but I'm not willing to prospectively monitor Twitter's platform for deletions so that my datasets always match what is currently available on Twitter. That is technically infeasible for me, and I suspect for many others as well. The practicality aspect I mentioned applies also to users. You can ask AIR-L members to remove your data, but what assurances do you have that they've done so? It's impossible even to check that they've actually read your message. Now consider all the other researchers' datasets of which your data may be a part--there's no way to even know who to ask. And all of this to prevent your data from being one point among millions, with no exposure of any identifying information? Participation is open to all conference participants, but we request a Short Paper (two pages) by 15 September submitted via Easychair describing the system’s requirements and properties, such as: - whether the system is intended for use in controlled (i.e. in polling stations) or uncontrolled environments (i.e. remotely via the Internet or in kiosks); - which types of elections it accommodates; - whether it addresses the needs of voters with disabilities; - what sort of verifiability it provides; - the extent to which it guarantees vote privacy; - whether it has been deployed in a real election; - where to go for more information. The E-Voting System Demo-type of submissions will be published online in the TalTech press proceedings. The submission of poster type can be of preliminary or finished work on the topics mentioned in the conference topics below. Poster presentations will give you a chance to present your work and get feedback from other attendees. To join the session, it is necessary to prepare a Short Paper of maximum two pages and submit this by 15 September via Easychair. The submission for posters will not appear in the proceedings. How to search web pages published years ago?

Hi, I’m looking for a way to do a web search (like a Google search) but only pages published between two dates. Is there a way to do that? I’m aware of archive.org, but their search engine is very limited and do not let me do that. I would be already happy if I can search content that is still available online but remove recent result (exemple: “page published before 2015”). Regards, Simon Perdrisat
