Tallinn University’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School is hiring a research fellow (postdoc) to work on film and TV industry public value creation processes using data science or network science methods. The fellow will be part of the research project Public Value of Open Cultural Data (https://publicvalueofdata.tlu.ee) and soon to be launched Horizon Europe project titled CresCine. The latter will focus on cross-sectional analysis of film industry data from multiple international databases aimed that discovering trends affecting film production and consumption in Europe. This work will be carried out together with Europe's leading film industry institutions and universities. UK Influencer Parliamentary Inquiry

Hello all, I was the Specialist Advisor for the UK Parliamentary Influencer Inquiry in the UK which meant I worked with the Department of Digital, Media, Communication and Sport to support them in collecting evidence and putting together a report on themes related to influencer culture. The idea is that the issue is holistically reviewed, and recommendations are made to the Government for policy change. I have to add disclaimer that I only *advised *and the report etc was ultimately written by the Committee. I'm not speaking on behalf of the inquiry - I just wanted to draw attention to the report for those interested. Some great people gave evidence from this list including Dr Crystal Abidin, Dr Robyn Caplan, Dr Ysabel Gerrard and more! Evidence sessions were transcribed and can be found here <https://committees.parliament.uk/work/1126/influencer-culture/publications/…> (the platform one - with reps from Meta, Instagram, TikTok & Twitter - is interesting). The inquiry most looked at influencer labour (working conditions, pay gaps, representation), experiences of harassment, children working as influencers (you can see from the report that the current regulation has a lot of gaps in it around this), and advertorial labelling. For those that are interested in examining television news, either as a medium itself or as a proxy for video storytelling as a comparative for the rise of video on the web, we announced yesterday in collaboration with the Internet Archive an expansion of the open TV News Visual Explorer to the entirety of the Archive's international television news holdings, which now span selections from 98 channels across 50 countries and territories in 35 languages and dialects over 20 years: https://blog.gdeltproject.org/tv-news-visual-explorer-announcing-98-channel… For 34 of those channels they are being actively updated daily. For those interested in doing an analysis like the New York Times' Tucker Carlson series, you can now do that directly from the Visual Explorer, with CNN, MSNBC and Fox News and the ABC/CBS/NBC evening news broadcasts spanning a decade. A selection of Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian domestic television news is also available, including playable video clips, for those interested in the domestic narratives of the invasion. Call for Research Contributions Nordic DiGRA 2023 The Nordic DiGRA Conference returns in spring 2023, this time in Uppsala, Sweden. This will be a fully in-person two-day event on 27-28 April 2023. Nordic DiGRA (Digital Games Research Association) invites research contributions in the form of extended abstracts. We accept deviations from the format as well as creative interpretations (such as panels, workshops, demos, etcetera). We invite contributions from within and across any discipline committed to advancing knowledge on games. The conference theme this year, Interdisciplinary embraces, speaks to the multidisciplinary nature of the field of games research. We ask for extended abstracts in a first round, with all accepted speakers invited to submit full papers for a special issue in the Transactions of the Digital Games Research Association (ToDiGRA) journal. Important dates Research contribution submission deadline: 18 November 2022 Presenter acceptance notification: 1 February 2023 Conference: 27-28 April 2023 Journal full paper deadline: 30 May Theme The theme this year is Interdisciplinary Embraces. We have a preference for a candidate with skills in data science. Research methods and/or teaching data science approaches could include statistical analysis, natural language processing, automated content analysis, data extraction, and/or coding.
