The successful applicant will join a dynamic research-oriented faculty offering innovative undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs. The person hired will teach introductory and advanced courses in communications in their areas of specialization. He/she will also be expected to supervise Masters and Ph.D. students and to contribute to departmental and university service. Ability to teach in Hebrew is required (in exceptional cases, successful candidates will be expected to teach courses in Hebrew within a few years of their arrival). The program will begin with a full-day dissertation-focused session on Sunday, November 13th, culminating in a career-focused dinner with the mentor team. On Monday, all DC participants will participate in the poster and demo session to engage the entire Group’16 conference with their projects. The program will conclude with a closing meal on WedWe encourage applicants from a broad range of disciplines and approaches that inform Group, including HCI, CSCW, anthropology, sociology, information science, computer science, information systems, cognitive science, organizational studies, design and related fields. We are particularly interested in applications from institutions and programs that have not traditionally been well-represented at past Group conferences. We also encourage applications from non-US institutions. Applicants should be late-stage Ph.D. students with an already well-established direction of research, but whose research would benefit from guidance provided by peers and senior colleagues. Preference will be given to students who have a clearly defined topic and program of work underway. They have likely proposed their topics and are within 2 years of graduation within a 5 year program or are half way through a 3 (or 4) year program. The DC committee will select up to 10 participants. These scholars will be expected to present their research for critique at the main DC event, interact with the conference around their poster at the reception, attend the full technical program, and the wrap-up meeting. APPLICATION: Applicants should submit the following items by email to DC(a)group2016.org with the subject line "GROUP 2016 DC Application" This should include TWO PDF attachments: overview and bio/cv. • A FOUR-page overview of your doctoral research project that describes your research question, work in progress, and expected contributions. Gang, Regarding the gender and surveys question, here's the thread from last April. I don't know if the previous messages will follow and be easily retrieved. If not let me know and I will copy paste them all. Demographic questions are interesting. Maybe not that much if you a cis white male, but in any case, it's good to shift the male centred gaze and make other populations visible for once. Gender in surveys/tests

Hi all, I have always followed the rule of thumb to not ask the demographic questions - gender, race/ethnicity - in the beginning of the survey or a test because it affects how people answer the questions. Can somebody please share some research that supports this? I remember reading research about how test scores are affected when students are reminded about their gender and gender related stereotype. I also remember reading a thread on air listserv where somebody pointed out not to ask gender questions in the beginning of the survey. But cannot find any of the papers or that email thread. If Can anybody share literature that offers reason for not asking gender question in the beginning of the survey? Thanks, Devayani
