Media, Technology & Culture Open Access Lectures
by Joshua Braun 23 May '16

23 May '16

Hi AoIR! Courtesy of Culture Digitally, I've just open-accessed the audio lectures for the first unit of my undergraduate "Media, Technology & Culture" course at UMass. They're formatted as podcasts and take on the obligatory question for most such courses, "How new are 'new media?'" They feature guest appearances from some great historians and sociologists and I hope some of you may find them useful as assigned "readings" for your own classes. http://culturedigitally.org/2016/05/media-technology-culture-open-source-au… If you listen and/or make use of them I hope you'll also take the time to provide feedback, as a big motivation on my part for posting these is to make them better and to involve more voices in the conversations that happen in my own classroom. Many Thanks, Josh -- Josh Braun, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Journalism Studies Journalism Department University of Massachusetts Amherst @josh_braun Skype: wideaperture http://wideaperture.net/ new book: http://wideaperture.net/?view=book "Maybe the only gift is a chance to inquire, to know nothing for certain. Liinc: Ethical-epistemological dilemmas in the Information Age
by Annette Markham 23 May '16

23 May '16

Hi All, I just wanted to update the list about the very interesting published edition of this special issue of Liinc on "Ethical-epistemological dilemmas in the Information Age.” Recommended reading, particularly given recent ethical dilemmas and conversations on this list and in the Facebook / OKCupid worlds: http://liinc.revista.ibict.br/index.php/liinc/issue/view/47 Um, also, in addition to reading them just for themselves, you might find some of them inspirational as you prepare your OWN abstracts to submit to a new special issue I’m editing with Andrew Herman on “Ethic as Method” for the journal Social Media & Society. Here’s the CFP and the deadline is May 30 for your 750 word abstract! http://futuremaking.space/ethics/ethic-method-special-issue-social-media-so ciety-call-papers/ Best, annette On 5/25/15, 21:46 , "Marco Schneider" <art68schneider(a)gmail.com> wrote: >Call for articles: Liinc em Revista > >Ethical-epistemological dilemmas in the Information Age > > >Liinc em Revista is accepting submission of articles for the next issue – >Volume 11, n.2 – to be published in November 2015. Possible Book Proposals on Internet, Games and Tech
by Alfie Bown 23 May '16

23 May '16

Dear all, I am hoping some of the researchers on the list would be interested in a recent book I wrote called 'Enjoying It: Candy Crush and Capitalism <http://www.bookdepository.com/Enjoying-it-Alfie-Bown/9781785351556?ref=grid -view> ' which came out with Zero Books. There is an idea of the project here <http://thenewinquiry.com/essays/seconds-of-pleasure/> and a 5 minute video about it here <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW9oF3OPzqQ> . If there is any interest in the project, I am now working with Zero Books and looking to solicit some book proposals for the publisher in the fields of videogames, technology and the internet. Zero Books publish shorter books of around 20k-30k words and print affordable paperbacks that can be fairly widely disseminated. If you are interested in submitting a proposal for a book which you think might be a match, feel free to get in touch. New Association Coordinator for AoIR
by Jennifer Stromer-Galley 22 May '16

22 May '16

Hi everyone, It is with sadness that I announce that Courtney Bennett, AoIR's Association Coordinator, is stepping down from her role for family reasons. She has been tremendously helpful in her time with AoIR, and we wish her much luck in her future pursuits. Fortunately for the Association, one of our members is a great fit for the role. Michelle K. Gardner will be starting as Association Coordinator May 30th. She has a background in events coordination, but her passions are for all things digital. Michelle has researched the use of social media tools for engagement, communication, and education. Over the last several years Michelle has educated people across the United States on social media tools and their uses through conference presentations, invited talks, and keynote luncheons. When not otherwise occupied, Michelle can usually be found hanging out with Harry Potter fans or traveling. <https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__aoir.org_wp-2Dcontent_u…> If you ever have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to email Michelle at ac(a)aoir.org<mailto:ac@aoir.org> or me at prez(a)aoir.org<mailto:prez@aoir.org>. ~Jenny Stromer-Galley President, AoIR
