who is utilising a reseach website for their qualitative research?
by Ulrike Kachel 12 Oct '09

12 Oct '09

Hello everyone, Sor far I was a quite passive member of this great list, but hope this will change now. I am a qualitative researcher utilising the Internet for empirical material collection. For my research I developed a research platform which is basicly a community platform offering blogs and fora to my participants. In my research I am exploring tourist's perceptions of climate change and how this influences their travel decisions and experiences. My participants to some degree already talked about this topic on their own travel blog or within a travel community which they are a member of. At this stage I just started some email interviews with first participants and will start the online discussions on my platform soon. As a qualitative online researcher I am fairly lonely in my department/shool(/university?) and would like to connect with other researchers who use a similar approch for their research. It would be great to exchange some experiences or receive some references if the research has been published. Kind regards, Ulrike -- Ulrike Kachel PhD Candidate Department of Tourism, Leisure, Hotel and Sport Management Griffith Business School Gold Coast campus Griffith University Qld 4222 Australia Location: Room 2.08, G27 building Phone: 07 5552 8084 Fax: 07 5552 8507 Mobile: 0416 095 196 Email: u.kachel(a)griffith.edu.au

Those who attended the conference and were photographed with the infamous hats are more than welcome to see them. I publish them on Facebook but you have to be my friend to see them, so please feel free to friend me so you can look at the pics. When I get time, I wll publish them on Flickr (there are no photos that would cause anyone embarrassment--well, except for wearing the hats:-) It was a great conference and I enjoyed meeting many new people and seeing old friends. Fwd: [Fwd: International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010]
by nativebuddha 09 Oct '09

09 Oct '09

---------------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Subject: International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010 From: "Charles Becker" <beckerleschar(a)ORANGE.SN> Date: Fri, October 9, 2009 6:26 am To: H-WEST-AFRICA(a)H-NET.MSU.EDU -------------------------------------------------------------------------- International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010 Location: Cameroon Conference Begins: 2010-03-25 International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010 It is quite opportune that Africa has something to contribute to the information age. First, with innovations like mobile phones, we can say that Africa has not been left out. Africa is reported to be the world's single fastest-growing regional mobile market. Second, some researchers have noted that there tends to be mismatch between the realities for developing economies and assumptions of Western models of enterprise, thus as business practices evolve with their changing business environments, more research is needed to redefine existing knowledge to be consistent and applicable with the dynamic nature of the environment. These developments draw attention to a number of questions. What role can we play in the information age? Is Africa going to be only consumers of the information age or can Africa join the producers of ICT knowledge, products and services? What could be emergent patterns of ICT knowledge transfer in development? Is there an opportunity for unique contribution from Africa in this information age? If there is, then let us tell the story of what we have in this conference. With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), The National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) and The Louisiana Board of Regents, we are pleased to announce The International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010. The International Conference on ICT for Africa 2010 (ICIA 2010) is themed 'ICT for Development - Contributions of the South'. This conference will bring together a fine mix of practitioners and academicians in the area of ICTs for sustainable development. The conference will explore the contributions of Africa to the global ICT for development discourse and efforts. The objective is to highlight the synergy of collaboration between African countries and other developing countries, and between African countries and the developed countries towards development solutions. Discussions and panel debates will therefore question how ICTs become the process for South-to-South knowledge transfer and South-to-North knowledge transfer in both research and practice. Workshops will explore international grant-seeking opportunities for ICT research and projects, e-learning for African universities and new frontiers in telemedicine and tele-neonatology research and practice in Africa.
