Hi Katie, I'm familiar with the following studies that have devised and used an Interactivity scale for website interactions - you will probably need to adapt/modify for relevance to your study's context: Liu, Y. (2003). Developing a scale to measure the interactivity of websites. Journal of Advertising Research, 43(02), 207-216. Song, J. H., & Zinkhan, G. M. (2008). Determinants of perceived web site interactivity. Journal of Marketing, 72(2), 99-113. I've also recently come across some metrics based on web logs data that have been purported to measure interactivity of web 2.0 widgets and social media applications but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for. Steve brings up a good point here. During the timespan of the metastudy (1996 to 2008), Internet technology has changed greatly while traditional classroom technology has changed little. In fact, the biggest change in f2f teaching has been the increasing use of PowerPoint which probably diminished classroom interaction thus leading to less student engagement. As Steve pointed out, the new media became less like the old media and developed methods to better engage the student. Leaving out the differences in innovation makes for an unfair comparison. To me, whether online or f2f is better is a false dilemma. Online technology is valuable as a content delivery system but it is the conversations with peers and the teacher that turns information into knowledge. As I read the report, I see it as evidence that a blended learning approach is the most effective (http://thejournal.com/articles/2009/07/01/meta-analysis-is-blended-learning…) And that fits in with my experience as both a traditional instructor and online instructor. This is an interesting study but I think the debate should be more about how learning itself has changed rather than the learnings tools have changed. Once faculty get comfortable with the newer format, often they get quite innovative. And yes, as iTunes U and YouTube show, often they fossilize their old methods. Colleagues/ Mark Your Calendar(s) / This Friday ! /Gerry Lee Dirks / Director, Education & Scholarly Communication / Microsoft External Research Friday/ September 18, 1:15pm / Pound Hall Room 100 (Map) / Free and Open to the Public / In the future, frontier research in many fields will increasingly require the collaboration of globally distributed groups of researchers needing access to distributed computing, data resources and support for remote access to expensive, multi-national specialized facilities such as telescopes and accelerators or specialist data archives. There is also a general belief that an important road to innovation will be provided by multi-disciplinary and collaborative research - from bio-informatics and earth systems science to social science and archeology. There will also be an explosion in the amount of research data collected in the next decade - petabytes will be common in many fields. These future research requirements constitute the 'eResearch' agenda. Powerful software services will be widely deployed on top of the academic research networks to form the necessary 'Cyberinfrastructure' to provide a collaborative research environment for the global academic community. The difficulties in combining data and information from distributed sources, the multi-disciplinary nature of research and collaboration, and the need to move to present researchers with tooling that enable them to express what they want to do rather than how to do it highlight the need for an ecosystem of Semantic Computing technologies. Such technologies will further facilitate information sharing and discovery, will enable reasoning over information, and will allow us to start thinking about knowledge and how it can be handled by computers.This talk will review the elements of this vision and explain the need for semantic-oriented computing by exploring eResearch projects that have successfully applied relevant technologies - and anticipated impact on scholarly communication as we know it today. It will also suggest that a software + service model with scientific services delivered from the cloud will become an increasingly accepted model for research. can't get no satisfaction

I want to thank everyone for sending me sitcom suggestions for a modern family where husband and wife work, kids are relatively normal, and everyone uses ICTs and cellphones. However, I have been unable to find one that fit my specs, perhaps due to the fact that I never watch TV before 10PM. Seventh Heaven -- wife doesn't work. Beverly Hills 90210 -- mostly pre cell phone era. Doesn't really focus on parents. Big Love -- 4 Wives is not the American norm (at least at 1 time) Gossip Girl -- not intact families. Vampires not normative, except in movies & TV. I keep hoping that Carrie and Samantha will get married; Miranda will reconnect with Steve, and all 4 Sex & the City ladies will come back in 15 years.
