Qualitative Data Analysis Software Recommendations

I'm evaluating various qualitative data analysis (QDA) software programs for a project that involves web-based artifacts, and I'm hoping that the collective wisdom on this list will help me find the right program for the task at hand. My data set includes several hundred discussion threads from an online forum, and I would like to save these threads in a web-native format (e.g., .html, .mht, .webarchive) rather than "print" them to .pdf or .rtf format. When I open the artifacts in the QDA software, I would like to see a web page, not Adobe's or Microsoft's mangled output. Unfortunately, very few QDS programs are able to import HTML files. I've tested trial versions of Atlas.ti, NVivo, MAXQDA, Qualrus, QDA Miner, and HyperRESEARCH, but only Qualrus seems to be able to open web-native files. Has anyone out there had success with Qualrus? Its coding and crunching capabilities don't seem very robust compared to Atlas.ti and NVivo, but my first impression may not be correct. Alternately, are there other QDA programs I should consider that can handle HTML files? I'm on a Mac, but all of the programs I've mentioned (other than HyperRESEARCH) are Windows-only, so I've been running the trial versions using VirtualBox. Suggestions for either platform are welcome. Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. Thanks to these technologies, collaborative communities are today one of the emerging trends in the ICT area. Notable examples of collaborative communities are those in online social networks, where users are able to establish relationships with other users, possibly of different types and for purposes that may concern business, entertainment, religion, dating, etc, and also they are able to enforce information sharing based on these relationships. As such, social networks represent a natural place for collaborative communities. Collaborative tools based on the social networking paradigm, i.e., collaborative social network, are today more and more used not only by single users, but also at the enterprise level to communicate, share information, taking decisions, and doing business. This is in line with the emerging trend known as Enterprise 2.0 As such, the existence of collaborative social networks that can be used for various reasons creates both interesting opportunities and challenges. The aim of this workshop is to bring together researchers in various disciplines to explore the effect of social networks on collaborative applications. Our ultimate goal is to foster communication and collaboration across disciplines to enable interdisciplinary approaches for collaborative social networks. CollaborateSN-2009 will be held in conjunction with the 5th International Conference on Collaborative Computing: Networking, Applications and Worksharing, (CollaborateCom-2009), which is jointly sponsored by IEEE CS, Create-Net, the International Computer Sciences, and Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering (ICST). Hello all, I'm looking for a male to share a room at IR 10. I do smoke occasionally, but would never do so in the room. I have a double room booked at the conference hotel, arriving Wednesday Oct. 7 and departing Sunday Oct. 11, and would be interested in a a roommate for all or part of the conference. I note in passing that the room-sharing procedure of AoIR conference-goers confirms my belief that there is such a thing as a biological sex and that important life decisions depend on it. In short, neutrality is the idea that Internet service providers should afford equal interconnection among content providers and users of the network, so that those who control access to the network do not censor lawful content or enact discriminatory routing of content. The outcome of this debate has significant implications for the participatory-democratic nature of the Internet, the free flow of information and speech, users privacy rights, Internet governance, efficacy of independent media, and political participation, as well the continued vitality of libraries and educational systems. Given these stakes, network neutrality may well be the telecommunication policy issue of the 21st Century. In North America, battles over network neutrality have already emerged in Canada and the United States. While mobilization for network neutrality has been slower in Canada than in the United States, in the last year alone activism has taken many forms, including online and offline actions and politicizing a range of citizens and policy-makers. Canadas media regulator, the Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission (CRTC), has issued a call for network neutrality and is holding a public hearing on issues related to traffic management in July 2009. Proponents of network neutrality in the United States scored their biggest victory to date when President Barack Obama signed into law the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which included language supporting neutrality principles as part its Broadband Technology Opportunities Program. Nevertheless, any subsequent legislation seeking comprehensive enforcement of network neutrality will surely face intense opposition. This issue will spotlight international perspectives on network neutrality that encompass such themes as empire, network economics, technological innovation, telecommunication regulation and corporate control. Any analytical approach is welcome, including comparative studies, telecommunication policy analysis, media studies, ethical examination, political economic critique, as well as others. Potential topics could include, but are not limited to the following: --public awareness and activism about net neutrality --ethical perspectives on network neutrality --neutrality as a telecommunication policy norm --network neutrality and Internet governance --the relationship of network neutrality to other areas of communication law --consumer disenfranchisement/power without network neutrality --media ownership and network neutrality --industry trends that may undermine, or support neutrality --technologies that may undermine or support network neutrality --examination of the relationships between competing broadband networks --media discourses on network neutrality --network neutrality and impact on library and education sector --network neutrality and impact on independent media sector The Global Media Journal -- Canadian Edition (http://www.gmj.uottawa.ca/) welcomes high-quality, original submissions on related topics to the above theme.
