I want to be able to visualize which commenters are responding to other commenters. Does anyone have suggestions of software to use? Ideally I'd like to find something where I can create visualizations as I code, dragging lines between one comment and another. (I realize the latter request is probably a pipe dream.) I've already talked to Warren Sack at UCSC about the tool he used for his dissertation, and at the moment it does not look as if it will work for me, for two reasons: 1) I need to better visualize the connection between threads in chronological order, and 2) it would take a lot of work (for him!) to massage my data into a format which his software could crunch. Hello All: I need to pick your brains! I am a doctoral student (Howard University) mass communication and media studies program and very interested in the One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) laptops for education for developing countries albeit lately, it is being introduced in developed countries as well. I am thinking of managable and viable ways of conducting a research on the topic. Any suggestions???? I'm currently thinking along the lines of many discontinued countries.... evaluation? assessment? comparative analysis? Kindly provide your input. Greatly appreciate it. For a historical chapter about the Internet that I'm co-writing, I'd appreciate knowing: 1. Does Yahoo's portal-based directory service still exist, and if so how do I get to it. (I want to give an example) (I suppose I could go to the Internet Archive but that seems daunting.) 2. what were the names of the people (usually Bay Area students) who laboriously constructed the hierachy of categories in Yahoo. This year, the conference is theme-based (ie paper proposals have be to submitted to a theme), and as one of the theme organisers, Im happy to announce that a new theme, of interest to perhaps some people on this list, has recently been added: "Theme: The Present and Future of Humanist Inquiry in the Digital Field What contributions may literary, poetic, and aesthetic idioms of humanist inquiry -- traditionally associated with problems of lyrical expression, narrativity, linguistic subjectivity, and authorial and readerly agencies -- continue to offer to the analysis of medial practices and systems in the era of mobile, distributed, and social media? I think the earlier term weblog has been replaced in usage by blog and hence my preference.
