Its friendly interface and its hypermedia features attract virtually every computer user around the globe. As a result, the Web has become a dominant global multicultural and multilingual pool of various types of data. Further it continues to grow. Finding information that satisfies specific criteria is a regular daily activity of almost every Web user. Recent Web statistics showed that almost 65% of the online citizens are non-English language users. As the Web population continues to grow, especially in Asia, Africa, and South America, more non-English users will be amassed online. Recent studies showed that non-English queries and unclassifiable queries have nearly tripled in the last decade. The main conclusion from previous research is that most search engine features are primarily focused on the English language. Based on previous studies and on the experiences and conclusions of the iNEWS07 (Improving Non-English Web Searching) ACM SIGIR'07 Workshop, the special issue aims to address the challenges and directions in Non-English Web retrieval. For the special issue we seek high quality papers with theoretical and/or experimental orientation. Topics of interest for the special issue, as applied to Non-English Web searching, include, but are not limited to: Evaluation User search behaviour Query log analysis Indexing Information extraction Summarization User studies Retrieval models Question answering Natural language processing Concept based image retrieval Creation of multi-lingual web collections Intranet/enterprise search Text categorization and clustering Digital libraries Cross language and multilingual retrieval Submission Instructions: Submissions must be in English and adhere to the format specified by the journal Information Retrieval. For formatting guidelines please see: JIR formatting guidelines The abstract should be about 250-words in plain text. Include title, author(s) and author(s) affiliations, contact details, and up to five (5) keywords that describe your work. The full paper should be anonymous, and authors should conceal their identity where it is practical to do so. Include a 200-250-word abstract and up to five keywords. The paper should range between 16-20 pages. Methods question

I have a methods question that I'm hoping someone can provide some pointers and insights into. I am going to use a method that seems like it would have been used before, but I've had trouble hunting down examples, likely because they would be buried in literature from many different disciplines. Here is the scenario... I am going to perform a study of an IM interaction. I will have approximately 100 pairs that will communicate with each other via IM. People on one side of the interaction will ask a question and people on the other side will answer the question. After the interaction, each participant will fill out a brief questionnaire about the interaction. I am interested in comparing the different perceptions of the same interaction (e.g., the timeliness and quality of the interaction). Have any of you performed a similar study where people are paired up for some experience and then individually asked what their perceptions of the experience were? If so, do you have any pointers to papers or methods texts that I could review to get ideas on the specific analysis techniques or questions that I may want to consider? Allan Woods, "Military Issues Web Warning" "Brig.-Gen Peter Atkinson... warned that seemingly innocuous photos, videos and news reports can be the source for as much as 80% of the intelligence that insurgents routinely gather on operations.... "Wikipedia is among the most dangerous of the public-access websites, he said.... 'Due to its collaborative content contribution, anybody can add to the content, providing a compilation of details on a specific incident, like the descriptions of a casualty, photos, locations, and news articles contributed by several sources,' Atkinson told reporters." BW: To check this out, I searched on Canadian, Taliban and 2008, and found nothing currently revelatory, even in the article, "War in Afghanistan (2001-present)". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_in_Afghanistan_%282001%E2%80%93present%29 I do not have the time, inclination or resources to search the history of every article to see who revealed what, when, where, why, or how.
