The phenomena of interest include human-to-human interactions carried out using chat, instant messaging, text messaging, email, web logs, mailing lists, news groups, bulletin board systems, multi-authored Web documents, structured conversation systems, textual and graphical virtual worlds, etc. Computer-mediated conversations blend characteristics of oral conversation with those of written text: they may be synchronous or asynchronous; their audience may be small or vast; they may be highly structured or almost amorphous; etc. The persistence of such conversations gives them the potential to be searched, browsed, replayed, annotated, visualized, restructured, and recontextualized, thus opening the door to a variety of new uses and practices. The particular aim of the minitrack and workshop is to bring together researchers who analyze existing computer-mediated conversational practices and sites, with designers who propose, implement, or deploy new types of conversational systems. By bringing together participants from such diverse areas as anthropology, computer-mediated communication, HCI, interaction design, linguistics, management, psychology, rhetoric, sociology, and the like, we hope that the work of each may inform the others, suggesting new questions, methods, perspectives, and design approaches. = About Paper Topics = We are seeking papers that address one or both of the following two general areas: * Understanding Practice. The burgeoning popularity of the internet (and intranets) provides an opportunity to study and characterize new forms of conversational practice. Questions of interest range from how various features of conversations (e.g., turn-taking, topic organization, expression of paralinguistic information) have adapted in response to the digital medium, to new roles played by persistent conversation in domains such as education, business, and entertainment. *Design. Digital systems do not currently support conversation well: it is difficult to converse with grace, clarity, depth and coherence over networks. But this need not remain the case. Toward this end, we welcome analyses of existing systems as well as designs for new systems which better support conversation. Also of interest are inquiries into how participants design their own conversations within the digital medium -- that is, how they make use of system features to create, structure, and regulate their discourse. Multimedia and creativity

Hi, I'm looking for some help on locating literature which discusses the use of multimedia in promoting creativity in education. The main aspect of my research is to explore how the use of multimedia technology (more specifically the use of the image/text/sound capabilities of a mobile phone) can help foster creativity in an educational setting, and to compare this to using text alone. I'm looking for some literature which discusses the use of images to help in the creative process e.g. using visualisation to spark off ideas etc . I'd also be keen to know if there's anything written about the use of audio as a tool for creative thinking. If I could get some recommendations for literature which touches on this area, I'd really appreciate it. Or anybody has information of any other work ongoing which would be similar it would be great to hear about it. Thanks in Advance Niamh McGreen

The transformation is enabled by new and pervasive ICT infrastructures that foster disruptive product- and process-innovations. Recent innovations in new business practices such as zero latency business, mass customisation, product modularisation, enterprise application integration, collaborative supply chain management, mobile commerce, customer integration in product development and distribution are just few examples of deep business transformations the internet and mobile technologies have launched. Internet and mobile technologies affect all facets of production, distribution and usage of information goods and significantly transform development-, production- and distribution of physical goods in ?Old-Economy? industries. The impact of internet based technologies is visible in current corporate strategies. These strategies recognize new competitive challenges within existing value chains that dissolve and need to be reassembled. Competition is shifting from an inter-company level to a competition over strategic partners, architectural control and alternative value estraction logics. This we call competition within and between emerging value webs- new value chain arrangements. Value webs consist of networks of partners and competitors which collaborate and compete across and within various stages of value chain. The interactions are enabled and constrained by ICT capability and value extraction within the web draws upon specific architectural responsibility and control assigned to different partners. Information systems researchers have directed their attention to specific examples of these Net-Enabled Value Webs. Net Enabled Value Webs can execute transactions, rapidly exchange information, and innovate through new business processes, and at an unprecedented pace. Accordingly inter-organizational cooperation is often discussed in terms of B2B-Marketplaces, supply chain management, virtual organizations, or strategic alliances etc. Also new types of collaborative communities, e.g. on-line communities or communities of practice, are emerging which have changed the relationships between producer and consumers. Information and communication technologies both enable and constrain these and other types of value web arrangements. Recently, the impact and potential of mobile & ubiquitous computing technologies and the transformation of wireless communications to broadband data services has attracted increased attention in shaping new value creation networks (see e.g. several tracks in conferences such as ICIS etc. and special editions of journals such Electronic Markets, etc.). There is an urgent need to reconfigure large portions of the value chains that deliver mobile services. All these aspects and research topics describe a paradigm shift in value creation and extraction in the age of the internet. Since the research in value webs requires multidisciplinary research involving applied computer and information sciences (such as computer supported cooperative work, artificial intelligence, information retrieval, human computer interaction, information systems, ontologies) and social sciences (such as economics, management science), the minitrack addresses both empirical and conceptual research that draws upon the interdisciplinary nature of the field. Dirty E-Politics: When will virus writers get righteous?

Okay, so, spam, spoofs, phishing? Bboring. So you make a few bucks, maybe get caught. Whoopee. Trojans and worms that sucker the suckerable into doing things no one should do, for no one's benefit in particular except the cheap thrills of the virus writer? Yawn. Old news; been happening since '93. But send an email that looks like it's from the ACLU, that announces a time-critical action needed (thereby baits the faithful into clicking immediately because it isn't about their credit card info or some Nigerian attorney) and asks folks to click an embedded link that launches a nasty *.exe or *.bat file, THEN you're really accomplishing something new, and messy. Targeted viral mail that selectively wipes out Democratic harddrives, or that critically impairs the PCs of Republican activists? The day before an election, or the day before the other "side" has something *real* that will happen or be deployed or be announced? An email they might even forward madly before investigating thoroughly? Or something that includes an address book worm so that one activist easily infects tons of others, in a snowball process, instead of these dumb "I just grabbed a few random sentences from some random file on your computer, that don’t make sense on their own and out of context" worm messages? How has this not happened yet - or has it, and I've missed it? -eg
