Serverless computing will help users, and developers smoothly and seamlessly deploy their applications for Edge computing environments like sensor-based technologies, the Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, big data analytics, machine learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence. All the service providers of the major league, i.e., Amazon, Google, Microsoft, have successfully launched commercially usable serverless computing platforms. Although the services are commercially available and functional, several unresolved and challenging issues persist. This workshop aims to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to exchange innovative ideas, latest research findings, practical experiences, lessons learned, and future directions to propel the research on utilizing serverless infrastructure for smart and pervasive computing. IBN, through the submission of high-level intents describing what the user wants instead of how to do it, is expected to create a flexible and vendor agnostic manner to manage the network, while reducing the complexity and the manually error-prone process to configure the network. IBN is creating immense opportunities for any kind of network operator and infrastructure provider and reduces the knowledge gap between novice and expert users. However, IBN as a relatively new technology presents a multitude of open challenges that need to be addressed. For instance, how can an intent be expressed appropriately by network users of different experience and addressed to networks with different capabilities? Furthermore, how can intents be accurately translated into low-level configuration policies? Additionally, how can the intent activation be conducted efficiently and be assured throughout its lifetime to guarantee a high- performance configuration that will present the necessary self-properties of an autonomous network? The above are just few of the many challenges that IBN has to tackle. Accordingly, this workshop is soliciting conceptual, theoretical and experimental contributions to a set of currently unresolved challenges in the area of IBN and autonomous networks, with the goal to create High Performance and self-managed networks. These devices are characterized by limited computing capabilities, being also restricted by power constraints. Similarly, edge-first networks face delays, jitter, and packet losses due to resource contention, high traffic loads, and other reasons. ML can be used to process and analyze data from edge devices and sensors to extract useful information and insights. This information can then be used to make decisions about how to manage and optimize at run-time both the edge devices and the network. Additionally, ML can help to identify patterns and correlations in data, which can be used to improve decision-making. However, there are a number of challenges associated with implementing machine learning on edge devices and networks. The RCML Workshop aims to stimulate research on the latest advancements in resource-constraint machine learning for edge systems. Research results from funded projects in the general area of machine learning optimizations for edge computing are especially encouraged. AoIR Executive Committee Nominations open 11 March

Dear AoIR Members, I am happy to announce that AoIR will soon be seeking your nominations for the new Executive Committee, to take office in October of this year and serve until October 2025. Nominations officially open on 11 March 2023. Below, you will find: (a) a timeframe for the election, (b) a description of the AoIR governance system and the elected positions, (c) our nominations and elections processes, and (d) some key questions for candidates. A. Timeframe of the Election: 1. The call for nominations opens on 11 March 2023 and will remain open for fifteen (15) days. 2. Nominations for all positions close on 26 March 2023. 3. Candidates will be listed on aoir.org and further information will be made available on our membership system, where discussion fora will let you ask questions of the candidates. 4. Voting begins on 22 April 2023 at our online balloting site and will remain open for ten (10) days. (Details for accessing this site will be sent in a later message through our membership system.) 5. Voting ends on 1 May 2023, expiring at 12:00 noon, U.S. Eastern Time in the State of Delaware. Election results will be announced on air-l. The new Executive Committee is formally introduced and assumes its duties during the Annual General Meeting during the AoIR conference in Philadelphia, on 21 October 2023. More information about our election processes can be found in the AoIR Bylaws: https://aoir.org/bylaws/ Candidates should familiarize themselves with the duties laid out in the Bylaws. I also encourage persons interested in running for a specific position to contact me or any of the current office-holder(s) with any questions. In particular, the Treasurer needs to be financially literate, including the use of budgeting spreadsheets, and should ideally liaise with the current Treasurer or Vice-President in advance of nominating. B. AoIR Governance and Description of Elected Positions: The organizational structure of AoIR is simple. There are 5 officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Graduate Student representative). The 9-member Executive Committee consists of these officers, plus the Past President and 3 Open Seat representatives. Elected officials hold their positions for two years. After two years, the Vice President becomes President. Nominations are invited for Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Graduate Student representative, and 3 Open Seats. You may nominate yourself or someone else you think would do a good job. Details on the nomination procedure follow below. Nominations officially open on 11 March 2023. Duties of the President: Article 4/Section 6 of AoIR's bylaws. Duties of the Vice President: Article 4/Section 7 of AoIR's bylaws. Duties of the Secretary: Article 4/Section 8 of AoIR's bylaws. Duties of the Treasurer: Article 4/Section 9 of AoIR's bylaws. Duties of the Graduate Student Representative: Article 4/Section 10 of AoIR's bylaws. Duties of Open Seat representatives: Represent the membership of AoIR, and contribute to decision-making. Members of the Executive have their membership fees waived for the duration of their term, and pay a reduced conference registration fee. C. Nominations and Elections Processes: Only current members of AoIR can run for a position. They may be nominated by anyone, including themselves. If nominated for more than one position, a nominee must choose to run for one (and only one) position in this election. You may nominate yourself or others. If nominating someone else, confirm with that person that they are willing to run, and eligible to do so. Self-Nominations: Email AoIR Association Coordinator Michelle at <ac at aoir dot org> and indicate the position for which you are nominating yourself. Please provide in your nomination email a short candidate statement addressing the questions below. Nominating Others: Email AoIR Association Coordinator Michelle at <ac at aoir dot org> with the name of the person you want to nominate, the position for which you are nominating this person, contact information for the person, and an indication of whether you know if this person would accept this nomination. (If you don't know, we'll contact them and ask.) All candidates for election will be required to provide answers to the questions listed below, have the answers posted to the AoIR election forum, and participate in an online candidate forum. In addition, the Graduate Student candidates must confirm in their response that they comply with the by-laws: the Graduate Student Representative must be actively enrolled in a degree program at the time of nomination and election. The Treasurer needs to be financially literate, including the use of budgeting spreadsheets, and should ideally liaise with the current Treasurer or Vice-President in advance of nominating. The voting system used by AoIR allows one vote per member for each of the elected positions listed above. Votes will be tallied using a balloting software. In the case of the four directly elected officers, the candidate with the highest number of votes shall be declared the winner; in the case of the Open Seats, the candidates with the highest, second-highest, and third-highest votes shall be declared the three winners of the Open Seats. In the case of tied results for the officer positions, the winner shall be determined by the ballot counters, by drawing of lots, using a method that ensures each of the tying candidates has an equal chance of success and witnessed by at least 1 person independent of the association. In the case of tied results for the open seat positions, the drawing of lots shall be used only when there are more tied candidates than seats available. D. Questions for Candidates (these questions must be answered in your nomination email): 1. What are your qualifications for this position (including prior experience and participation in AoIR)? 2. Please describe two or three short-term goals you would like to achieve through membership on the executive (including a rationale for each and how you would contribute to their achievement). 3. What is your long-term vision for AoIR? 4. What else should voters consider when deciding on whether or not to vote for you? In answering the questions, please be concise and give information specific to the position for which you are nominating, to enable voters to assess your case for election to that position. Revolutions,[2]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt2> terrorist attacks,[3]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt3> earthquakes,[4]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt4> fires and floods have been written about on the platform, often within minutes of the first recorded protests, attacks, and blazes. This practice of documentation, conducted by volunteers who are connected by shared interest rather than shared expertise, falls between the disciplines of digital journalism and history. What does Wikipedia’s coverage of events “that haven’t even stopped happening yet”[5]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt5> mean for history-making on the platform? Researchers have noted that recent events are covered more than early history[6]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt6>, and stories are more often presented from colonialist rather than local perspectives.[7]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt7> More recently, Wikipedia has been uncovered as a site of both conscious forgetting and the “frenzy of commemorations,”[8]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt8> a venue for nationalist propaganda projecting particular stories that favour particular ideologies and social groups. * How does Wikipedia construct history and collective memory? * Does Wikipedia enable the forging of a collective memory via consensus?[9]<https://wikihistories.net/2023-conference/#ftnt9> * How are some versions of the past pushed to the fringes? * What gets remembered and what gets forgotten? * How can we study history-making on the platform? In this first annual workshop of the wikihistories project, we will take stock of what we know and what we still need to know about Wikipedia as a history-making platform. We do this because Wikipedia’s representation of history matters. Its facts travel through knowledge ecosystems and rest as answers to questions provided by digital assistants, search engines and other AI-enhanced tools. Wikipedia’s claims to neutrality are more a hope than a promise, a guise that hides the dreams and ideologies of the individuals and groups that understand its power and are determined to master its form. We invite Wikipedia scholars and researchers to participate in a two-day symposium being held online on the 8th and 9th of June. The symposium will be held for about 4 hours at different times each day to accommodate a range of global timezones. Greetings! Colleagues and I have facilitated focus groups on employee electronic surveillance in partnership with the unions in Canada. We are now preparing a large-scale survey and are struggling to find robust measurement scales for some interesting constructs: Surveillance creep/function creep (tool used for monitoring in addition to initial reason), surveillance uncertainty (people not sure about what is surveiled, when, who) and right to be forgotten/permanency of records. *** Last Mile for Submission of Workshop Proposals *** 19th IEEE eScience Conference (eScience 2023) October 9-13, 2023, St. Raphael Resort, Limassol, Cyprus https://www.escience-conference.org/2023/ The 19th IEEE eScience Conference will be held in Limassol, Cyprus on October 9-13, 2023. eScience 2023 welcomes proposals for workshops to be co-located with the main conference on Monday, October 9 and Tuesday, October 10, 2023. The eScience conference has a long history of hosting well-attended workshops broadly related to eScience and co-located with the main conference. These workshops share the goal of bringing together international and interdisciplinary research communities, developers, and users of eScience applications and enabling IT technologies. Workshops play a crucial role in the conference by providing an opportunity for researchers and practitioners to present their work in a more focused way than the conference itself and to have in-depth discussions of particular topics of interest to the community. Workshops may be focused on any eScience-related topic including, but not limited to interdisciplinary and translational research, continuum computing infrastructures, data science, sustainability, and education. eScience 2023 invites authors of workshop proposals to consider a diverse group of organizers, paper reviewers, and keynote speakers in terms of race/ethnicity, gender, and geographic areas. eScience 2023 accepts two types of workshop proposals: (1) workshops with peer-reviewed papers and proceedings, and (2) workshops or mini-symposia with invited talks and no proceedings. Workshops with peer-reviewed papers and proceedings The proceedings of workshops with peer-reviewed papers will be included in the eScience 2023 proceedings to be published by the IEEE Computer Society Press, USA and made available online through the IEEE Digital Library, if the following criteria are followed: • The solicitation for papers must be open. • All the papers must be peer-reviewed by a qualified Program Committee. • The workshops Program Committee must have an appropriate size for the expected number of submissions. • The workshop proceedings must have at least 4 papers at a length of at least 6 pages and no longer than 10 pages (including figure, tables, and citations) in the IEEE conference format. • For each paper selected for publication, at least one of the authors must be registered to eScience 2023 to present the paper in person. Workshop organizers are responsible for establishing a Program Committee and a paper submission system, collecting and evaluating submissions, notifying authors of acceptance or rejection in due time, ensuring a transparent and fair selection process, organizing selected papers into sessions, and assigning session chairs. Proposals showing clear focus and objectives in areas of emerging or developing interest will be prioritized. Workshop proposals should be submitted via email to workshops(a)escience-conference.org and not exceed 5 pages in length. Proposals should include the following information: • Workshop name and acronym. • Workshop description, including its focus and goals (max. 500 words). • Names and affiliations of the organizers and tentative composition of the committee (we invite the authors of the proposal to consider a diverse group of organizers and committee members in terms of e.g., race, ethnicity, gender, geographic areas, etc.). • Expected number of submissions/accepted papers. • Prior history of this workshop, if any.
