This year's edition will take place from the 13th to the 15th of June on the island of Ponza, Italy. MedComNet is a forum for the presentation of new research results in the broad area of wired and wireless communication and computer networking. All aspects of the networking research area are welcome. MedComNet will request the technical co-sponsorhip of IEEE. All paper submissions must be written in English and must be formatted in standard IEEE 2-column format. Only Adobe PDF files will be accepted for the review process. Further instructions (including the submission link) will be published on the website. Be aware that this is still under constructions and it is currently just a mirror of 2022 edition. Keep an eye on it! https://www.medcomnet.org/ We will consider two different categories of papers: Full papers should describe novel research contributions and are limited in length to ten (10) printed pages (10-point font) including figures, tables, and references. Papers exceeding ten (10) pages will not be accepted at EDAS, nor reviewed at all. Short papers should be more visionary in nature and may report on work in progress without finished results. They are meant to present novel perspectives, so as to foster discussion about innovative directions and new points of view. They are limited to at most four (4) pages including figures, tables, and references, but might in many cases be even shorter. Accepted short papers will be included in the proceedings and they will be given (a shorter) time for oral presentation at the conference. ======================================================================== No-show policy: ======================================================================== Submission to the conference implies willingness to present. No-shows will be excluded from the proceedings. No-show papers are defined as papers submitted by authors who subsequently did not present the paper in-person at the technical meeting (given the current situation, remote presentations may be allowed). Presentations by proxies are not allowed. No refund of the paid fees can be claimed by the no-show author. Hello everyone, The call for papers for JCIRA Special Issue "Emerging Issues in Computational Advertising" might be of interest: The Journal of Current Issues in Advertising (JCIRA) is calling for articles that discuss emerging issues and advances in computational advertising. Over the last decade, computational advertising has been praised for replicating "what humans might do if they had the time to read Web pages to discern their content and find relevant ads among the millions available" (Essex, 2009, p. 16). Computational advertising has expanded to become "a broad, data driven advertising approach relying on or facilitated by enhanced computing capabilities, mathematical models/algorithms, and the technology infrastructure to create and deliver messages and monitor/surveil" individual behaviors (Huh & Malthouse, p. 1). By handling massive data in real time, computational advertising quantifies consumer characteristics and experiences to personalize advertising messages, target media content, and simplify consumer decision making. Algorithms drive targeted content to maximize message frequency, reach, ROI, and lift. The rapidly growing field of computational advertising involves numerous systems including information retrieval, behavioral analytics, and decision making (Yang et al., 2017) and is thus relevant for interdisciplinary research such as advertising, marketing, computer science, linguistics, and economics. This special issue will publish original, high-quality papers that examine the theoretical, methodological, ethical, or practical implications of computational advertising. Suggested topics are listed below, but we are open to other relevant themes regarding computational advertising: * Definitions and measurements of concepts * Computational advertising and its relation to disinformation * Brand safety in the age of computational advertising * Ethical issues related to computational advertising * Consumer privacy in the age of computational advertising * Authentic versus fake advertising * Measurement issues in computational advertising * Societal value of computational advertising * Algorithmic synthesis of creatives * Short-term behaviors versus long-term valuations * Trust and its role in computational advertising Submission information All manuscripts submitted must not have been published, accepted for publication, or be currently under consideration elsewhere. This postdoctoral position focuses on research aimed at advancing computational methods for communication science (e.g., automated content analysis). Technological advancements enable communication scientists to collect different types of data (e.g., through scraping social media data, gathering data through digital agents, receiving data through data donations). Introduction of these novel data collection methods results in availability of large quantities of data that come in various formats (e.g., text data, visual data). This brings on methodological challenges of analyzing such data. In sum, communication researchers now have a broad range of novel computational methods at their disposal to gather and analyze large amounts of data that vary in their format. However, there is a lack of knowledge about the usage and validity of these methods. For example, whereas some algorithms are available to analyze visual data, these algorithms have not been validated on data relevant to communication scholars. This theoretical and technical work was done at the Institut de la Recherche et l’Innovation, the World Wide Web Consortium and the Unlike Us network in the period 2011-2014. As demonstrated by tracing Facebook’s lineage to a reading of the concept of mimesis from Girard by Thiel, already then the toxic influence of Facebook on the mental condition of young users was known. In contrast, Stiegler’s work quickly focused on alternative architectures and the development of new concepts: Another social network is possible.

Historical Reddit Data Collection

Good afternoon all, I'm making a call for help regarding collecting reddit data from a particular sub-reddit (/r/teachers). I'm looking to collect all of the posts (+comments, replies, etc.) starting August 1, 2022 to present for a project I am working on. The problem is that I don't code, so the many tutorials about how to do it with Python aren't helpful for me. I have been using a great tool called commualytic (developed by some Canadian scholars - also does Twitter, Telegram, and CrowdTangle [Facebook/Insta]) that generates lovely CSV files, but due to a recent change in the Reddit Pushshift API, only the last 31 days of subreddit data are available. If there is anyone out there that could help me with this, point me in the direction of another tool that I could use, or a capable student or colleague that might be able to help, I would be much obliged. Twitter Journalist Suspensions

Dear Colleagues, I’m sure all will agree that the mass censorship of, I think now 11 journalists from major news organisations today by Elon Musk is incredibly disturbing. I am wondering how one deletes all one’s tweets? Anyone know? I’m considering doing this but leaving my account as a placeholder, so I am not leaving that data there, and removing myself at this point from the platform. I was hoping not to do this, given that I network in Twitter for my research on propaganda and develop contacts. But this obviously crosses such a line. People need to push back somehow not just move to mastodon , but I’m honestly not sure how. I’m trying to process the implications and wondered other’s thoughts on this latest development.
