On August 11 at 5:21 p.m. Mountain time, I posted to the listserve. At 5:54 that same day I received a response from J.J. At 6:19 I received an email that contained the below quote and 6:34 I received an email from Jeremy. This confused me because it happened before the daily list serve could have been published. My questions are. Is there a back channel for communication of postings in the listserve? Are the three of them editors or censors? Are "drillhole" and "Piss" academic language that I should know. Could you define "Regular Folk." Because I really like transdisciplinary work, allow me to provide a Regular Folks translation of the call, below. Let the record show that I am doing this with real trepidation. On one hand, I don't really want to encourage more of your dillhole behavior. On the other, it would piss off if nobody else challenged you for the sake of the AIR-Archive, given that you've just accused Jeremy and Ellis of being intellectually bogus. In an attempt to send the following paragraph to my editor (for translation) my spell checker had a psychotic episode. "Transdisciplinary Studies is an internationally oriented book series created to generate new theories and practices to extricate transdisciplinary research from the confining discourses of traditional disciplinarities. Within transdisciplinary domains, this series will publish empirically grounded, theoretically sound work seeking to identify and solve global problems that conventional disciplinary perspectives cannot capture. Transdisciplinary Studies seeks to accentuate those aspects of scholarly research which cut across todays learned disciplines in an effort to define new axiologies and forms of praxis. This series intends to promote a new appreciation for transdisciplinary research to audiences that are seeking ways of understanding complex, global problems that many now realize disciplinary perspectives cannot fully address. clothing Nud*ist

Denise and someone else recommended Nud.ist and NVivo6. These are notes, and are by no means a recomendation or a disuassion. 1. There is now NVivo7 which is a combo of Nud.ist and NVivo. 2. Early reports say it is resource hungary and perhaps slow to run. 3. Tom and Lynn Richards, the Aussies who founded QSR (which begat Nud.ist and NVivo) have left active running of the company. 4. We haven't tested NVivo7 at NetLab yet. Would love to hear from those who have. I understand the program has already been upgraded, perhaps to install, load and run faster. I may have told this story before, but I love it. In the early 1990s, my wife took a Nud.ist workshop in the USA. (I think Lynn ran it.) A month later, we were in Bielefeld at the World Congress of Sociology. In an elevator, my wife saw someone who had taken the workshop with her. "Didn't I see you at the Nudist workshop?" she asked him abmidst a packed elevator! Gasps!! And the sound of silence. Just to be clear here, I have not, nor will I likely ever have a private conversation/dealings with Dr. Cornwell, his center or his work. My work and the work of my colleagues on Transdisciplinary Studies and other endeavors stands as is, in the context of its production, its editing and related affiliations, editorial boards and advisory boards. I just wanted to state the 'null relationship' because some people may have inferred that there is some past argument or discussion in the private sphere and there has been none. The current discussion appears to have been started by my discussion with Ellis about whether or not we can describe non-atomistic, systemic, or ecological effects. Call for Essays Play and Pedagogy: Video Games and Writing Instruction The editors of Play and Pedagogy: Video Games and Writing Instruction are seeking 15-25 page contributions that consider the multiple ways that digital gaming technologies, including console games, computer games, and massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs), can be used for composition instruction as objects or locations of inquiry and as modes of production. We invite both works that theorize games and gaming as compositional spaces and cases that discuss successful classroom practices that engage games in writing courses at the graduate and undergraduate level. Proposals should be submitted by August 15, 2006. Upon recommendation by the collection editors, authors will be asked to submit finished articles by January 15, 2007. Games and gaming as social experience are starting to be explored in depth through a variety of collections and special journal issues, but relatively little has been written about games and composition instruction (although much has recently been published on games and learning). The goal of this collection is to collect and synthesize theory, research, and practices of games and gaming as specifically applied to composition instruction. Dear All, I'd definitely agree with what you've posted Yanuar, the software should only be thought of as assisting the process (i.e. ease of storage and retrieval) it still relies on the researchers own skill in developing and applying the coding frame. I'm currently using MAXqda2(see http://www.maxqda.com/ for the 30 day demo version). It's not terribly cheap but I found it easier to pick up than Nvivo, and have used it for coding interviews, learning journals, and even project documentation. It is also very easy to display e.g. "all segments coded against x", or "all segments coded against x for subject a" etc and many other variations which were sometimes problematic in Nvivo. I think it's worth checking out. I'd be interested to hear more about the framing theory mentioned, I don't think I've come across it before.
