Dear Colleagues, I am writing to announce our call for Virtual Research Fellows for the Spring Semester with the online laboratory Volunteer Science <https://volunteerscience.com/>. This semester-long fellowship is for researchers interested in creating web applications using the platform. During the fellowship, researchers will receive free access to Volunteer Science’s researcher portal, free training in building online web applications with Volunteer Science, and weekly coding sessions and hands on support from Volunteer Science staff. The expectation is that fellows will use this time to create, deploy, and analyze data from their application by the end of the fellowship. The deadline for applications is* December 29th*. Cultures of fact travel Organisers: Dr Heather Ford, University of New South Wales; Professor Christopher W. Anderson (University of Leeds), Dr Lucas Graves (University of Oxford) This panel invites research that addresses how facts and knowledge claims are represented in online spaces, how they are evaluated and verified, the ways in which they face opposition or reach consensus, and/or how they travel through the infrastructures of the Internet. A large variety of sites and practices have emerged to host and distribute facts in online environments. New facts are born digital in the form of databases, data visualisations, online dictionaries and encyclopaedic entries while facts that existed before the Internet are digitised and encoded using the rules and grammar of software. In this environment, facts are produced and represented using software for visualising data and exporting visualisations into Web-friendly formats, where facts are verified on fact checking platforms and where facts are distributed and shared using software such as the ‘share this’ button at the end of a newspaper article, a ‘cite this’ button on a scientific journal article, or a retweet function on Twitter. In order for a fact to travel, it needs to move from beyond its origins in the lab, the institution, company, field, or community to new audiences. Sometimes this translation happens between institutions, sometimes it happens between fields, or between countries, continents or languages. This panel will host different approaches to the production, evaluation, and distribution of facts in digitally-mediated environments. Open panel paper submissions should be in the form of abstracts of up to 250 words. They should include the paper’s main arguments, methods, and contributions to STS. When submitting papers to open panels on the abstract submission platform, you will select the Open Panel you are submitting to. Papers submitted to an open session will be reviewed by the open session organizers and will be given first consideration for that session. Papers not included in the session to which they were submitted will be considered for other sessions.

History and origins of diffusion processes

If one looks up the word 'diffusion' in the *Dictionary of the History of Science*, you get the standard explanation that 'diffusion' originated in the 19th c with Graham and Maxwell and has a Latin etymology in the word, *diffundere*, which means "to spread out." There has to be more to the story than this, right? Earlier references might include the "diffusion of refracted light" in Robert Greene (1727) and "diffusion of light" in Newton's *Optical Lectures* (1728). My question for these listservs is, does anyone have any additional insight into the history and origins of the abstract idea of 'diffusion?' Thank you, Thomas Ball

Candidates must demonstrate outstanding research potential and publication records, substantial and relevant teaching experience or potential, and a commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and the support of diverse intellectual communities. We welcome candidates working in, or across, the fields of Indigenous art, visual and material culture, and media (including but not limited to photography, sound, performance, textile, video, film, installation, elemental media and new media). A research and teaching concentration that demonstrates understanding of Indigenous knowledges, methodologies, epistemologies, histories and pedagogies is expected. Preference will be given to candidates whose work engages with Indigenous experiences in North America, drawing on decolonizing and/or other Indigenous perspectives as informed by their involvement with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions. Prevalence of Trolling Behavior

Hello Everyone, I am searching for population-based research on the prevalence of trolling behaviors. I have some books (Phillips, 2015 and Coleman, 2014) on this topic, but can not find research that discusses commonality of the behavior. While I know it is difficult to study trolling, even defining it is up for debate, but I would like to read more research. Any suggestions? This has not really been studied within criminology, and therefore I am coming up empty-handed. Any advice is very much appreciated! Best, Becky
