by Timo Gnambs 10 Apr '17

10 Apr '17

Dear Colleagues, We – Diana Klose, Ulrich Schroeders, and Timo Gnambs – are currently conducting a meta-analysis on ability assessments in proctored and unproctored settings. We would like to invite you to contribute by providing unpublished articles and manuscripts. With this meta-analysis, we want to provide an overview of studies conducted on the comparability of proctored and unproctored ability assessments. To be included in our analysis, studies need to include a measure of cognitive abilities conducted both in a proctored (e.g. lab) and in an unproctored setting (e.g., web-based). If you have unpublished work (including unpublished data or manuscripts) that fit the description, we would be very grateful if you could send a copy of the respective work to diana.klose(a)uni-bamberg.de by April, 21 2017. We are looking forward to hearing from you. [ABS CFPs] Rethinking Digital Media and Citizenship: Conditions, Contexts, and Consequences
by Seungahn Nah 09 Apr '17

09 Apr '17

American Behavioral Scientist (ABS) Special Issue Call for Papers (CFPs) *Rethinking Digital Media and Citizenship:* *Conditions, Contexts, and Consequences* *Guest Editors:* Seungahn Nah (University of Kentucky) Masahiro Yamamoto (University at Albany, State University of New York) *Description:* A substantial body of scholarship has long tackled how traditional and newly emerging information and communication technologies (ICTs) foster an informed, efficacious, and engaged citizenry. Despite prolific literature on digital media and citizenship, theoretical approaches and conceptual and operational definitions still diverge in different disciplines and schools. What seems particularly missing in the literature is an examination of structural conditions and/or contexts that may facilitate or hinder the role ofdigital media in civic engagement. Therefore, the goal of this special issue is to call for theoretically and methodologically sound scholarship that examines causes, components, and civic consequences of digitalmedia use. Such an examination presents important practical implications and policy applications. This special issue addresses the following major questions: 1) How can digital media use and civic engagement be conceptualized, operationalized, and theorized across various theoretical perspectives in the convergence and divergence of digital media environment? 2) To what extent do digital media (social and mobile), along with traditional media, influence civic engagement and how such an influence varies across communities of places, interests, practices, and beyond, as well as different ethnic groups and those who hold different socio-economic status? 3) How do social contexts and conditions promote or impede the role of digital media in civic, political, and community life at multiple levels? The special issue editors would welcome submissions addressing the following topics: 1) Theoretical advancement on digital media and civic engagement in offline and online communication environments; 2) Integrated theoretical framework concerning digital media and citizenship ; 3) Innovative conceptual and operational definitions (measurements) of digital media across various platforms; 4) Social structural contexts and conditions (e.g., race, class, gender, family, school, organization, neighborhood, etc.) that affect digital media use and its effects on civic engagement; 5) Linkage between online and offline civic engagement from networked community perspectives. *Submission Guidelines:* Submitted manuscripts must be in MS Word (.doc) format with a title page that includes the title of the paper, full names, affiliations, email addresses, telephone numbers, complete addresses, and biographical sketches of all authors. Manuscripts must adhere to the APA (6th ed.) style and should contain between 6,000 and 8,000 words, including a 250-worlds abstract with 5-6 key words, all references, and notes. Manuscripts must contain original material which has not been previously published elsewhere or is not currently under consideration by another journal. All manuscripts should go through a blind, peer-reviewed process so no indicators of authorship should appear in the texts. Manuscripts should be submitted directly via email to seungahn.nah(a)uky.edu *Timeline* · Submission deadline: April 30, 2017 · Editorial decision: June 30, 2017 · Anticipated publication date: January/February 2018 All the best, SEUNGAHN NAH ********************************************** Seungahn Nah, PhD President, Korean American Communication Association (KACA) Associate Professor Community Communication, Dept. of Community & Leadership Development Information Communication Technology, School of Information Science University of Kentucky <seungahn.nah(a)uky.edu>

The position papers will be sent as PDFs via email to Peter Lyle <peter.lyle at m-iti.org> *before 5pm GMT on 24 April 2017* : About the Workshop This workshop is organised in conjunction with the Communities and Technologies 2017 <http://comtech.community/>conference. Digital platforms, often labeled as part of the “sharing economy”, are becoming increasingly relevant to both the daily lives of private individuals, and to researchers. As these tools are transforming various communities (of interest, place, practice and circumstance) to establish new forms of connection, welfare, labour and service, there emerge fundamental questions around the perils of creation and use. In response to this disruptive trend, this workshop brings together perspectives and cases from researchers and practitioners across various disciplines to interrogate how different form of collaborative economy might be imagined and created based on the ethics and logic of care as an answer to these perils. This workshop will serve as an open and active forum for participants of up to 20 practitioners, designers, and researchers involved in related fields. We welcome all methodological, practical, and speculative approaches to considering the relations between sharing, caring and collaborative economy. Key topics of interest include, but are not limited to: · Platform cooperativism <http://www.rosalux-nyc.org/wp-content/files_mf/%20scholz_platformcoop_5.9.2…> ; · Environmental sustainability and ecological concerns; (such as Ethnography after Human Exceptionalism <http://morethanhumanlab.org/blog/2016/05/11/new-%20publication-critical-and…> , Hacker Farm <http://makery.info/en/2015/08/11/hacker-farm-bricoder-dans-%20le-bled/> and Food Connect <http://foodconnect.com.au/>) · Peer-to-peer learning and production (such as Mothership Hackermoms <http://mothership.hackermoms.org/>, Coder Dojo <http://coderdojo.com/> and Free Software <http://fsf.org/>); · Citizen science (e.g. Quantum Moves <http://scienceathome.org/games/quantum-moves/game>); · Related social, political, cultural, and health domains and implications (including issues around rising precarity, homelessness, self-care and mutual aid); · Initiatives calling for digital social innovation and design for change (such as CAPS projects <http://capssi.eu/caps-projects>, the DESIS network <http://desisnetwork.org/> or the Enabling the Future <http://enablingthefuture.org/> network); · Digital currencies and finance, (e.g. Freecoin <http://freecoin.ch/>). The workshop has the following *goals*: 1. To create a space for discussion about new and ongoing work in the field, and open up debates about the direction of research and practice across diverse fields related to collaborative economy. 2. To bring together researchers and practitioners in related fields to identify current challenges around the sharing economy and reflect critically on what could be done to resist these trends. 3. To discuss existing cases or examples of communities, technologies, and practices directed at facilitating a sharing caring economy. 4. To reflect critically on questions involved in the design of technologies with and for care, to build more just and livable futures. As a follow up to the workshop, we aim to produce an edited publication (journal special issue), to which participants will be invited to submit a full paper. Discussions have begun with *CoDesign: International Journal of CoCreation in Design and the Arts*. *Important dates:* · 24 April 2017 – deadline for submitting position papers · 28 April 2017 – communication of acceptance · 5 May 2017 – early bird registration rate ends · 26 June 2017 – workshop *Submissions* We will include a maximum of 20 participants.
