Best tools for comparing Facebook Groups, identifying similar friends/like connections by elected officials?
by Steven Clift 04 Dec '16

04 Dec '16

Related to the #2 event below, we are identifying existing "online town hall" Facebook Groups that we would like to compare across cities - post, members, sharing from, settings, keywords in their descriptions, etc. Understanding which ones work best will help us shape our template and training for the two dozen volunteers who have step up to say they want to do their community. Any suggestions on existing tools? Also, it would be very helpful to be able to plug in the X personal profiles of local elected officials and generate a list of people who are friends with the most elected officials as well pages these elected officials Like in common on Facebook. Any suggestions on tools? Can you do this with the Facebook API? Any limitations? Hi everyone, As some of you know, AoIR.org's website has a blog (www.aoir.org/news) The blog is full of activity as we ramp up to the conference, and then it gets kinda quiet during the in-between time. I've been contemplating with the AoIR Executive Committee featuring writing and ideas by AoIR members on the blog. We've begun to repost articles that members of our community write to The Conversation (www.theconversation.com<http://www.theconversation.com>), for example. If you are interested in writing for the blog or sharing writing that is Creative Commons licensed with us about all things related to the Internet, we would welcome your thoughts. Feel free to email me at prez(a)aoir.org or Michelle Gardner, AoIR's association coordinator at ac(a)aoir.org<mailto:ac@aoir.org> with ideas or recommendations for cross-posting from other creative commons sites. ACM IUI is where the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) community meets the Artificial Intelligence (AI), with contributions from related fields such as psychology, behavioral science, cognitive science, computer graphics, design or the arts. About Student Consortium The IUI 2017 Student Consortium provides an opportunity for Masters and Doctoral students to present and receive feedback about their research in an interdisciplinary workshop, under the guidance of a panel of mentors selected from senior people in the field. We invite students who feel they would benefit from this kind of feedback on their research to use this unique opportunity to share their work with students in a similar situation as well as senior researchers in the field. The consortium will be organized with 8 to 12 presentations by the students, whose applications have been selected by the Student Consortium chairs. The strongest candidates will be those who have a clear topic and research approach, and have made some progress, but who are not so far along in their research that they can no longer make changes. The final version of accepted SC submissions will be included in the "Companion" volume of the proceedings along with workshops, tutorials, posters and demos and will be published at the ACM DL. Complimentary/reduced conference registration will be available for students. Student Consortium participants will be given high priority when applying for the student travel awards. Moreover, we are working to provide partial reimbursement of travel/accommodation expenses specifically for the participants of the Student Consortium. Check the details on the travelling grants page and make sure to apply. Objectives The objectives of the student consortium are to: · Serve as a supportive setting to provide/receive feedback on students' current doctoral and masters' research and guidance on future research directions · Offer each student comments and fresh perspectives on their work from researchers and students outside of their own institution · Promote the development of a supportive community of scholars and a spirit of collaborative research · Contribute to the conference goals through interaction with other researchers and conference events Submission Instructions To apply for the Student Consortium, please submit to the URL below a single PDF containing the following (in order): · A brief cover letter containing your full name, contact details, affiliation, web page, expected graduation date and target degree, the name of your thesis advisor, gender (optional), home country (optional), and whether you are a member of an underrepresented minority group (optional) one page maximum) · Your SC submission: a document describing your thesis/dissertation research plan and your progress thus far. =============================================== CALL FOR PARTICIPATION MICI 2017: Mixed-Initiative Creative Interfaces Workshop at CHI 2017, May 6/7, 2017, Denver, CO Submit by Jan 31, 2017 =============================================== Enabled by artificial intelligence techniques, we are witnessing the rise of a new paradigm of computational creativity support: mixed-initiative creative interfaces (MICIs) put human and computer in a tight interactive loop where both take turns suggesting, producing, evaluating, modifying, selecting creative outputs. This paradigm could broaden and amplify creative capacity for all, but is today mostly developed and studied in game AI. This one-day workshop at CHI 2017 therefore convenes CHI and game researchers to advance mixed-initiative approaches to creativity support. TOPICS OF SPECIAL INTEREST * User experience and engagement in MICIs * Interaction, design and evaluation challenges of MICIs * Future scenarios of human-AI co-creativity and MICIs in and beyond creative practice * MICIs for accessibility, inclusion, participation, and user-generated content * MICIs and models of creativity and collaboration We invite participants to submit 2-6pp. position papers in the CHI Extended Abstract format (https://chi2017.acm.org/submission-formats.html) via EasyChair at https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=mici2017. We will review submissions and select 15-25 based on relevance, quality, and diversity of inputs. At least one author of each accepted paper needs to register for the workshop and for one or more days of the conference. We expressly invite participants to bring system demos to the event. IMPORTANT DATES * December 15, 2016: Early acceptance submission deadline * December 21, 2016: Notification of early acceptance * January 31, 2017: Regular submission deadline * February 20, 2017: Notification of regular acceptance * May 6/7, 2017 (tbd.): Workshop For further information, consult the workshop site http://mici2017.org or write to mici2017(a)easychair.org.
