Hi all, I have a masters student who wants to write her thesis on how social media informs organizational behavior of employees. Her own department apparently doesn’t have anyone who can advise on social media related stuff, so she came to me, but organizational behavior is not my field. Thus, I am asking for your help, please recommend resources about how social media practices of the organization may influence what employees think about their employer and / or lead to different social media practices by employees themselves. thank you! EXPANDING THE BOUNDARIES OF COMMUNICATION AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL DECISION MAKING CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS In 2004, SUNY Press published Communication and public participation in environmental decision making (Depoe, Delicath & Elsenbeer, Eds.). This volume made a significant contribution to the field, including a much-cited chapter by Sue Senecah on the "trinity of voice" concept. Research in this area has flourished since then, including the recent book Citizen voices: Performing public participation in science and environment communication (Intellect, 2012; Phillips, Carvalho & Doyle, Eds.). In an effort to expand the boundaries of scholar-practitioner conversation, Kathleen Hunt, Gregg Walker, and Steve Depoe are issuing a call for submissions for a new edited volume that will feature work exploring theoretical, applied, empirical, and critical dimensions of communication and community engagement in environmental decision making at local, regional, national, and global levels. TOPICS: We encourage submissions that explore a wide variety of theories, perspectives, and case studies of community engagement, including, but not limited to: · case studies and empirical examinations of public participation in environmental and natural resource policy contexts · innovations in government- or regulatory-based public participation processes at all levels (local/regional/national/international) · analyses of private and non-governmental sector work regarding public participation · instances of environmental protest against dominant participation regimes and practices · meanings and practices of indigenous, community-based environmental dialogue and decision making in locales around the world · extension and application of relevant theories pertaining to public sphere, deliberative democracy, etc. · examination of the role of nature speaking or being spoken for in environmental disputes, etc. · roles and impacts of contemporary communication technologies (including social media, GIS, etc.) on public participation AUDIENCES: We hope to produce a volume that will be read and utilized by scholars of environmental communication, natural resource management, and environmental policy, and by practitioners in the field, including NGO members, environmental educators and advocates, and government officials. The editors will choose submissions to publish and develop an overall framework for the volume with an eye toward reaching a crossover audience. CALL FOR PAPERS Media, Culture and Change across the Pacific: Perspectives from Asia, Oceaniaand the Americas 16-17 November 2015 Pontificia Universidad Católica Lima, Peru. http://conferencia.pucp.edu.pe/media-practices/ As the Pacific century gathers pace, important questions arise about the mediaand communication dimensions of processes of social, economic and culturalchange currently under way across the vast Pacific region. Ongoing negotiationsaround a controversial trade agreement affecting 40% of the world’s economicoutput, known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), have added urgency to theneed for greater collaboration among Pacific scholars and researchers. Although the interdisciplinary field of mediaand communication studies, including the anthropology of media, is presentlyflourishing in this part of the world, most research to date has taken placewithin national or sub-regional scholarly networks. In addition, the NorthAtlantic region maintains its central position within the field. As a result,most East Asian scholars of media and communication still know little aboutempirical and theoretical developments in the Americas, Australasia or thePacific islands – and vice versa. The aim of this conference is to bringtogether media anthropologists and other media and communication scholars andresearchers from across the region to share their current research, compare andcontrast findings, and discuss possible research collaborations and fundingbids. The conference will also serve to launch a new interdisciplinary network:the Trans-Pacific Media ResearchNetwork. Looking for your creative help for an online harassment research fellowship

Hi all, I am an undergraduate student in the U.S. studying free expression and digital rights. I am developing a proposal for a year-long fellowship that would allow me to travel to several countries (e.g. Russia, South Korea) to study cross-cultural differences in online harassment and trolling. I’m looking for region specific suggestions of factors to study and who to interview. For instance, were I to go to Russia, I could conduct a journalistic investigation of troll factory employees. If anyone could point me to relevant literature examining cultural differences in online harassment (e.g. based on platform use like Facebook vs Weibo or differences in access like cell phones vs internet cafés) or researchers to contact, I would be very appreciative.
