But despite that interest, we still lack a systematic research agenda on search engine use and searcher behaviours, perhaps because the potential for the data is so broad and the fields of study being applied so vast that it is difficult to coordinate and discuss across disciplines. Consequently, researchers usually focus on the methods popular in their fields, but are unaware of other methodological approaches and/or software tools that could help them achieve their research goals. Thus, by collaborating across disciplines, there is substantial opportunity to introduce new methods and research questions to investigators who are working along similar lines but without awareness of each other. GOALS, OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOME The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers from academia and industry, who are interested in understanding search engine use, both as a primary and secondary source to reflect on user behaviour. We are interested in discussing methods and results in various areas, aiming for establishing a research agenda for information science researchers interested in Web searching. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Theories of Web search engine user behaviours * Evaluating search engine user interfaces * Information retrieval evaluation methods applied to Web search engines * Query log analysis * Eye-tracking research * User guidance in the search process * Incorporating user behaviours into search engine optimization techniques * Usability and user experience in Web searching * Using and sharing information found through search engines * Understanding user behaviours through triangulation of methods (e.g., transaction-log analysis, lab-based studies, online questionnaires, diary studies) TYPES OF SUBMISSIONS The workshop invites short research papers and position papers, as well. We also welcome overviews of relevant research done within a research group over the last few years. Accepted submissions will be presented in a 20-minute presentation. At least one presenter must be present at the event and register for the workshop. Extended abstracts and presentations will be made available on the workshop website. There will be no formal workshop proceedings. Submissions should be in the form of extended abstracts (approx. 1,500 words) including references. Model-driven engineering approaches provide considerable advantages to software systems engineering activities through the provision of consistent and coherent models at different abstraction levels. As these models are in a machine readable form, model-driven engineering approaches can also support the exploitation of computing capabilities for model reuse, programming code generation, and model checking, for example. The definition of a simulation model, its software implementation and its execution platform form what is known as simulation engineering. As simulation systems are mainly based on software, these systems can similarly benefit from model-driven approaches to support automatic software generation, enhance software quality, and reduce costs, development effort and time-to-market. Similarly to systems and software engineering, simulation engineering can exploit the capabilities of model-driven approaches by increasing the abstraction level in simulation model specifications and by automating the derivation of simulator code. Further advantages can be gained by using modeling languages, such as UML and SysML, but not exclusively those. For example, modeling languages can be used for descriptive modeling (to describe the system to be simulated), for analytical modeling (to specify analytically the simulation of the same system) and for implementation modeling (to define the respective simulator). Dear Professors and colleagues, I am starting a research using facebook data. I am newbie in this area and looking for a software or a way to automatically extract historical facebook data from (Arabic) facebook pages. Data needed include: - posts; - comments; - date &time of posts and comments; and - some information about people that post and comment (for example: name, gender, age, location,...etc as much as we can get). I tried NodeXL. It helped me collect much of these requirements but not the *date/time *of posts and comments and this is crucial for my study. *Middle East** Journal of Culture and Communication* *Special Issue Call for Papers * *Digital Intimacies: * *Exploring digital media and intimate lives in the Middle East* Over the last decade, the spread of digital technologies has profoundly reshaped intimate lives worldwide, transforming the ways in which people are involved in intimate relationships and experience love, sexuality and emotions in everyday lives. Like other places, in the Middle East, millions use the internet on a daily basis to access a variety of music and cultural products, and to communicate, create and maintain relationships with partners, family members, friends and lovers, as well as for activism. Indeed, along with providing spaces for different modes of activism and resistance, digital platforms have become critical arenas in which young people negotiate ideas and practices of love, dominant gender roles and religious and societal values. While some works have begun to critically engage with the use of the Internet for activism, very little is known of the ways in which digital platforms and different technologies (including mobile phones) can remold imaginaries and practices of love and friendship and mediate the ways in which "intimacy" is experienced and lived in the Middle East. This special issue aims to fill the gap in the scholarship on intimate lives and digital media in the Middle East by focusing on the everyday uses of digital platforms and addressing their material, gendered and imaginative implications for practices. We welcome articles from a wide range of disciplines (including and not restricted to anthropology, sociology, internet, cultural and media studies) that draw on empirically-grounded studies and that raise broader methodological and theoretical reflections. Some of the questions we hope to address are: 1. New imaginaries of love and marriage: how does people's access to online cultural products (within Islamic and non-Islamic contexts) contribute to remoulding their romantic imaginations, conventional courtship practices and intimate desires? 2. Digital media practices: which are the actual practices whereby young people create, maintain, and end intimate relationships through digital media? How do social media expand inter-personal communicative possibilities and widen people's social networks beyond immediate family and community based networks? 3. Digital media in long-distance relationships: how are digital media used in long-distance relationships between family members and lovers, in national and transnational contexts? 4. Digital media and social change: how do media practices challenge, reproduce and reinforce dominant social practices and gendered imaginaries? What is the impact of online practices on the way people experience intimacy in the everyday life? 5. Digital technologies, sex and sexuality: how do people have sex online? How do they produce and consume pornography? 6. The use of the internet by LGBTQ people: how do they create network, form communities and communicate online? Deadline for submission of abstracts is *30 September 2014*. Abstracts should not exceed 500 words and should provide a short explanation of your contribution to this special issue, provide a clear description of the proposed approach, the theoretical framework and empirical data.
