Plot retention rates in AAA titles

Good afternoon, everyone! I have a question, and this group seems like the place to ask. What level of plot retention would you consider to be average in a First or Third-Person Shooter? Studying AAA titles for plot retention is difficult, since there are several subsets of gamers that ignore plotlines as a matter of course, and shooters aren't usually noted for narrative depth. My primary issue is figuring out what percentage of gamers are ignoring the plot, and what percentage are not getting it because the game is not delivering it effectively. Also, there is some difference between total narrative comprehension and getting "the gist" of the game's plot- what percentages of players would you expect to fully understand the narrative, and what percentage understand the basics of the story? Two thoughts... Historically, there is some similarities with the Oxford English Dictionaries. Essentially contributors serve as first round editors, collecting and aggregating the earliest known usages of each word. Of course, this is still a hierarchical organization and traditionally I don't think it was much of a "community" -- still it might be a useful reference. Colleagues, I'm looking for some examples of communities of volunteers that help amalgamate a collection of materials rather than create them. The example we are examining is the Encyclopedia of Life, which aggregates data from many different scientific databases (and user-generated content such as Flickr images) into a coherent whole. The participants are called "curators" and their main role is to validate and approve content rather than create it. They also do a lot of work to integrate the original content into a coherent whole. What similar examples exist on the web today? What examples have existed for decades or centuries? privacy related practices, datasets and research

dear airudites, a friend and i want to write something about how to develop privacy related practices when collecting, processing and sharing datasets for research purposes. we are interested in what it takes to be compliant with data protection regulation (or similar regulation that applies in your state/country) or the ethics board, but more importantly we are interested in principles that could be seen as good privacy practices with respect to scientific research. these could be practices that you have developed in the past with respect to consent, anonymization (which has proven to be a weak protection mathematically, but what are ways around this problem), transparency, community etc. are there practices in your institution or community that you can point us to, or that you have thought about that you would like to share with us? also problems that you have run into would be very valuable. :) thank you, seda Disclaimer: http://www.kuleuven.be/cwis/email_disclaimer.htm

But even though I write "as usual" it should not be taken for granted that an enormous amount of work goes into it, and that every conference has had a different character to it, another thing that greatly distinguishes it from so many other conferences. The conference organizers, led by Ann-Sofie Axelsson and Ylva Hård af Segerstad, the program chair, Torill Mortensson, and all of the other volunteers who made it possible deserve enormous credit and thanks for their work. I also want to take a moment to thank the AoIR executive committee for its continued leadership and guidance of the association.
