Yet, whether these arrangements are 'new' or recombinants/re-presentations of extant things, it is very much the case that in many societies, those that would not have engaged with such arrangements in the past are, and that different sites of such arrangements are becoming easier to connect with each other. Thus, we are increasingly faced with the issue of having to navigate multiple places across and connected with the Internet. Unsurprisingly, those in commercial and other formal organizations are also making these connections too. This year we hope the workshop will tackle issues associated with the multi-sited nature of digital culture. However, as usual, we intend for the workshop to be multi-disciplinary in nature, broad in the approaches participants take and issues they cover. If your work is about any aspect of digital culture, this is the workshop for you! The following are thus only indicative of potential topics that could be raised: * What kinds of sites/spaces are being connected and why? * How does identity feature in multi-sitedness? * How does multi-sitedness feature in our knowledge and experiences of gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity and disability? * What are the problems and benefits of sociotechnical convergence? * What roles are mobile and ubiquitous/pervasive computing technologies playing in multi-sitedness? * How are commercial and non-commercial artifacts, digital games/TV/Radio/newsprint for example, being situated within and across physical and virtual spaces? Following from the first two workshops we continue to see this workshop having three purposes. First, we seek to give voice and structure to existing digital media, ICT and technology related research which may not readily sit within conventionally accepted areas. Second, we wish to draw in research on new forms of digital technology, ICT, computing, organizing and social interactions. Third, we want to continue discussions regarding potential futures for ICT related research, which combine research as related to the evolving forms and functions of organizations and the changing boundaries and relations between these organizations and their social milieus. We seek abstracts (of up to 600 words) that focus upon an aspect of digital culture. We hope to have a special issue of a journal associated with the workshop, as in the past. A special issue of Information Technology and People will be published early in 2011 and this has attracted papers from the 2009 event. Wikimania 2010: Call for Participation is there!

Wikimania is an annual global event devoted to Wikimedia projects around the globe (including Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, Wiktionary, Wikispecies, Wikimedia Commons, and MediaWiki). The conference is a community gathering, giving the editors, users and developers of Wikimedia projects an opportunity to meet each other, exchange ideas, report on research and projects, and collaborate on the future of the projects. The conference is open to the public, and is a chance for educators, researchers, programmers and free culture activists who are interested in the Wikimedia projects to learn more and share ideas about the Wikimedia projects. This year's conference will be held JULY 9-11, 2010 in Gdansk, Poland at Polish Baltic Philharmonic. Online Engagement Metrics

How might you measure this? Engagement: Strengthen, broaden, and diversify engagement through effective and meaningful online discussion and information exchange on public issues This is an updated (draft) goal of E-Democracy.org and applies essentially to the online spaces and experiences we host ourselves. We need your help in identifying metrics that are both measurable and that measure something useful. While there is something satisfying about simply hosting online spaces that last years while many spaces flame out in weeks or months (or are filled with flames like online news comments) "open" is not a metric that is all that persuasive with potential volunteers or funders. So what should we measure? What measures will help us track our inputs and outputs? For example "inclusion" is a big emphasis http://e-democracy.org/inclusion in recent years, so we are very interested in how we compare the results of what we are doing to in lower income/highly diverse/immigrant areas (where we have some funding) with what is happening in our all-volunteer areas (we have 10 neighborhood level Issues Forums open and suddenly 10 new ones in the start-up pipeline driven by new volunteers for example - http://e-democracy.org/nf ). Once you move from volunteer oriented work to funded efforts, the bar is a lot higher (even if you still have lots of volunteers everywhere.) So what and how would you measure against this goal? The information policy fellowship is designed recent PhDs who are interested in social, ethical, economic, legal, and technical aspects of information and information technologies with a focus on information policy and information ethics. Specifically, we are seeking candidates with research and teaching interests in the philosophy of information, critical/cultural studies of information, and/or advanced research methods. Along with continuing their own research agenda, the fellow will work closely with the Center for Information Policy Research and affiliated faculty, assist in coordination of related events, work with current PhD students, and participate in the academic and intellectual community of the School. The fellow will be expected to teach one class in the fall and spring semesters. The stipend for the fellowship will be $38,000 for a 12-month appointment beginning in August 2010, with a $2,000 research and travel stipend. Fellows are eligible for benefits. The IT University of Copenhagen will be offering a PhD course entitled, "Acting together on technological playing fields: Computer games, e-sports, and team play" from May 26-28. The course will focus on exploring the artefacts, structures, practices and cultures of team-based computer games through a sociology of games and sports. Students will share their research on the subject and discuss/engage with a collection of literatures and questions related to team games with the purpose of gaining some analytical and methodological tools to critically think with throughout the remainder of their research. The course will be taught of several scholars working specifically in the area of team play, e-sports, and the sociology of sports. T.L.
