Chris Marsden argues for a 'Middle Way' on net neutrality, a problem of consumer and media policy without easy answers that cannot be left to self-regulated market actors. 'Net neutrality is the subject of regulatory decisions in Canada and the United States, and legislation in the European Union, but the details of enforcement remain vague if not obscure. Based on his new book on the subject and those recent decisions, Chris Marsden argues that we should not entrench ‘Lex Monopolium’ at the expense of an open Internet, nor is the choice that drastic. Exploring Childhood Studies, A Graduate Student Conference Rutgers University, Camden Registration is now open! The Graduate Student Organization of the Department of Childhood Studies at Rutgers University-Camden proudly announces its first graduate student conference to be held April 09, 2010 on the Camden, New Jersey campus. The field of childhood studies engages in both theoretical and empirical study of children and childhood within historical, contemporary, interdisciplinary, multi-cultural, state, national, and global contexts. The multi-disciplinary nature of the field is one of its greatest strengths and the core of its remarkable potential for scholarly advancement, but also leaves the field open for exploration and interrogation, and its borders difficult, if not impossible, to define. The Exploring Childhood Studies conference proposes defining Childhood Studies by doing childhood studies. Papers will investigate childhood as a construct, children as a category, and the child as a real living human. The central focus of the 36 finalized papers will also be to interrogate the field of Childhood Studies itself. These 36 papers will be presented by graduate students from around the world, ranging across disciplines as widely as the field itself. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg has built his social networking empire on the belief that "information wants to be shared", a particular philosophy of information that directly impacts the values built into the design of Facebook, ranging from its user interface, privacy policies, terms of service, and method of governance. I am proposing a panel for IR.10 (Gothenburg, Sweden, Oct 21-23, 2010) titled "On the Philosophy of Facebook". This panel will explore the philosophy of Facebook and its broader implications for norms of privacy, identity, governance, sociability, and online life generally. Ideal papers will provide philosophical, conceptual, and/or critical insights into Facebook and social networking generally. I try to write a research propal about thai senior citizens and the internet. This research aims to study about internet using behavior of Thai senior citizens, advantage, and disadvantage in internet use and supporting ways by theirs opinion. I want to study only thai elderly who use the internet. recently statistic, has 77,869 older persons. I'm working in the area of privacy on harvesting social networking data in Canada. Does anyone know of any published research on Blippy? Or any tools that extract Blippy data the same way Twitter /Facebook data gets harvested? Sharon, I don't think this has anything to do with how Facebook looks now, it just means making this public and official.
