I'm with Marj Kibby, but I've almost given up fighting against the misuse of "Methodology" for "Method" Most of use 1 or more Methods Only a few of us study the development or evaluation of better Methods: Methodology. Methodology is pretentious. But so many people have used it to mean Method(s), that it's become widely and unconsciously imitated. Let us henceforth use our Methods with cheer, pride and self-awareness. And my hat's off to those intrepid few Methodologists who study, evaluate and develop new Methods. At my work place, Statistics Canada, we have people called methodologists who are the Gods. They have degrees in statistics typically PhDs in statistics. I have a bachelors in statistics so I am an applied statistician or statistical projects manager. I believe methodology is the study of methods. At my work that means things like correctly designing a SAS program that can compute a Coefficient of Variance for a given estimate based on survey data. Of course the design of sample and survey are all up to methodologists. Couch Internet Research Award 2010 Sponsored by the Carl Couch Center for Social and Internet Research http://www.cccsir.org/ The Carl Couch Center issues an annual call for student-authored papers to be considered for Carl J. Couch Internet Research Award. The Couch Center welcomes both theoretical and empirical papers that (1) apply symbolic interactionist approaches to Internet studies, (2) demonstrate interactive relationships between social interaction and communication technologies as advocated by Couch, and/or (3) develop symbolic interactionist concepts in new directions. Papers will be evaluated based on the quality of (1) mastery of Symbolic Interactionist approaches and concepts and Couch’s theses, (2) originality, (3) organization, (4) presentation, and (5) advancement of knowledge. Evaluation will be administered by a Review Committee of four: Mark D. Johns, Luther College, Decorah, Iowa Annette Markham, University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Lois Ann Scheidt, University of Indiana, Bloomington Dennis Waskul, Minnesota State University, Mankato Competition is open to graduate or undergraduate students of all disciplines. Works that are published or accepted for publication are not eligible for award consideration. Entries should not exceed 30 pages (approximately 7500 words) in length, including references and appendices. Limit of one entry per student per year. The top three papers will receive Couch Awards to be presented at the 2010 meeting of the Association of Internet Researchers (aoir.org) at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. In 1972, visionary futurists Robert Theobald and J. M. Scott wrote one of the most interesting works related to education in the field of future studies, Teg's 1994: An Anticipation of the Near Future. Like many significant studies of the future, Teg's 1994 was written as a work of fiction, in this case about a college student named Teg and her experiences as an "Orwell Scholar" in the year 1994. What makes Teg's 1994 significant is the nature of the future of higher education that Theobald and Scott envisioned and how much of it has come to pass. In many ways, Teg's 1994 can also provide valuable insights into the future of higher education that this fictional student's own children and grandchildren might encounter over the next 25 years. Extended Call for Papers Media Ecology Association 11th Annual Convention June 10-13, 2010 University of Maine, Orono Media Ecology and Natural Environments The subject of media ecology was formed with two biological metaphors in mind, Neil Postman wrote in "The Humanism of Media Ecology" (2000). In biology, a medium is a substance within which a culture grows. Change "substance" to "technology" and media ecology defines medium as a technology within which a culture grows, forming its politics, social organization, and ways of thinking. In biology, ecology is the study of what constitutes a balanced and healthy natural environment. Media ecology refers to ways that cultures maintain a healthy symbolic balance to help keep our natural world in order. Media ecology seeks to make us more aware that we live in two different environments. We live in both the natural environment of air, water, animals, and plants, and the media environment of language, images, symbols, and technologies that shape us. The 11th Annual Convention of the Media Ecology Association <http://www.media-ecology.org> invites papers, panels, creative projects, and other proposals exploring all facets of media ecology and those that focus on the convention theme, examining the connections between the two ecologies, one of culture and communication, the other of nature and the physical sciences. Convention submissions are welcome that draw on a wide variety of perspectives in environmental studies in the sciences and communication, from issues such as climate change, biodiversity, acid rain, and wildlife ecology. How do media ecology and natural ecology intersect? How do ecologists in humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences create dialogue with each other? Can scholarship bring artists, communication researchers, and scientists together? What is the relationship between primary natural and virtual media realities? What is the history of environmental thought? Postdoctoral fellowship in media places at HUMlab

Postdoctoral fellow (two years, salaried) in the humanities and information technology with a focus on media places at HUMlab, Umeå University, Sweden. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of the dynamic milieu of HUMlab and ongoing research on media places. Research can, for instance, focus on studio and lab environments for digital humanities and culture, interactive architecture, the development of public space in relation to social media, screen culture, new locative tools and visualization possibilities in humanities research, digital places used for cultural expression, the iconic-symbolic properties of digital spaces, or hybrid expressions. Suggestions for research foci are encouraged. The position will be affiliated with HUMlab, and apart from their own research, the successful applicant will be expected to work 20% of their time with scholarly and administrative duties for HUMlab. Additionally, the successful applicant will be expected to have a daily presence in HUMlab. This position is connected to a number of international networks, which include researchers from New York University, Stanford University and the University of California. HUMlab is closely affiliated with The School of Architecture and the School of Design, which are both located at the newly-built Arts Campus. The recent investment in developing the Arts Campus has contributed to the need for a postdoctoral fellow in this area, as well as provided a rich and multi-faceted research environment in which to work. The applicant will both be part of this research environment, as well as be expected to work closely in the development of this growing area. Additionally, HUMlab and the Arts Campus offer rich opportunities for collaboration with national and international researchers, as well as industry and the local community. Applicants must have completed their PhD degree within a discipline relevant to the research themes listed above. The degree must have been completed within the last three years, and the applicant may not have had previous employment as a postdoctoral fellow or research fellow (Sw. forskarassistent). I'm trying out a tool called http://rowfeeder.com/ You simply give it a search term and it collects relevant twitter messages, along with data about the user, into a Google Spreadsheet. They charge $2.48 per 48-hour period. It was extremely easy to set up.
