Leaving aside the (important) wider sociological questions about video game addiction, what seems to be the most effective approach to treating it? Is there a widely accepted/respected text on therapeutic approaches that is based on research? Is there a credible not for profit organization helping addicts and those that care for them in North America?

Dear Colleagues, I hope you are all keeping well and looking forward to the break. I am just writing to share news of two new publications from me, both on the role of hacking in silencing journalism and spreading false narratives. Hacking is far more than just a security issue. It chills free speech. And increasingly it’s impacting journalists, NGO’s, even academics like me. I learned this too well last year when I found myself in the middle of a ‘deep state’ conspiracy theory after after my efforts to inform journalism on disinformation spreading during the Bucha massacre were hacked by Russian intelligence. Suddenly, not only did a foreign intelligence operation have our emails, but I was the focus of the falsehoods I was seeing spread across the internet. Now the Russian hackers behind these attacks have been sanctioned by the UK and US governments and the US State Department has offered a reward of $10M for information on them. Hacking of journalism has serious consequences, I have written about the implications of this and what should be done. The Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad (UoH), India, and the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad, invite submissions for a one-day symposium on the theme “Constructing the Digital: Working from the Global South <https://aoirhyd2024.github.io/>” to be held on April 13 2024, Hyderabad. This Association of Internet Researchers (AoIR) <https://aoir.org/> Flashpoint Symposium will explore forms and structures of labour contributing to digital infrastructures, content, and systems, and presents an extensive opportunity for emerging and senior scholars, members of the digital/platform labour rights advocacy and activist community in the region to connect around critical questions related to the theme. In addition to two keynote panels, this one-day symposium will feature three thematic panels dealing with the labour behind the construction of the digital—as platform, infrastructure, device, content, environment, or medium, with particular emphasis on experiences and perspectives from underrepresented groups. These complex systems are frequently distributed over heterogeneous networks and process a large amount of data, leveraging emerging artificial intelligence (AI), large language models, and machine learning techniques. Complexity arises from many factors, including the dynamic environment and the scenarios these systems operate in, demanding and sometimes conflicting requirements in functionality, efficiency, scalability, security, dependability and adaptability, data heterogeneity, as well as the wide range of development methodologies, programming languages and implementation details. Performance, real-time behaviour, fault tolerance, robustness, security, adaptability, development time and cost, and long life concerns are some of the key issues arising in the development of such systems. The International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (ICECCS) is a well-established event that has been held around the world for over 25 years. The goal of this conference is to bring together industrial, academic, and government experts from a variety of application domains and software disciplines, to discuss how the disciplines’ problems and solution techniques interact within the whole system. Researchers, practitioners, tool developers and users, and technology transfer experts are all welcome. The scope of the conference includes long-term research issues, near-term requirements and challenges, established complex systems, emerging promising tools, and retrospective and prospective reflections of research and development into complex systems. The ultimate goal is to build a rich and comprehensive conference program that can fit the interests and needs of different classes of attendees: professionals, researchers, managers, and students. A program goal is to organize several sessions that include both academic and industrial papers on a given topic and culminate panels to discuss relationships between industrial and academic research. COLLABORATION WITH THE ACM TRANSACTIONS ON SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AND METHODOLOGY (TOSEM) To facilitate the dissemination of high-quality research presented at ICECCS 2024, selected papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their accepted conference papers to ACM Transactions on Software Engineering and Methodology (TOSEM). Authors of these selected papers are kindly requested to submit their extended manuscripts within six months following their conference presentation. Upon the authors' acceptance of this invitation, TOSEM will provide comprehensive instructions and requirements for the submission and review process. TOSEM will conduct its rigorous review process and make final decisions on acceptance. SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION Full papers are divided into two categories: Technical Papers and Experience Reports. The papers submitted to both categories will be reviewed by the program committee members, and papers accepted in either category will be published in the conference proceedings. Technical papers should describe original research, and experience reports should present practical projects carried out in the industry, and reflect on the lessons learnt from them. Short paper submissions describe early-stage, ongoing or PhD research. All short papers will be reviewed by the program committee members, and accepted short papers will be published in the conference proceedings. Submissions to the conference must not have been published or be concurrently considered for publication elsewhere. All submissions will be judged on the basis of originality, contribution to the field, technical and presentation quality, and relevance to the conference. In Latin America during the health emergency in 2020, digitalization, despite digital infrastructure limitation, was essential not just because it allowed to continue studying and working at home and promoted the improvement of the exchange of goods and services networks using smartphones and mobile applications, but because it helped people to build solidary chains to support and provide relief in places where authorities were absent or negligent. Digitalization augmented even more the popularity of social platforms and mobile devices which have consolidated as the main places of socialization and entertainment among Latin Americans. After three years since the outbreak, the Latin American landscape invites us to ponder, from a critical perspective, the digital economic activities that have flourished in this post-pandemic context. This special feature topic invites proposals that analyze, from an interdisciplinary and international perspective, the impact of the pandemic and digitalization in the Latin American labor market. Prospective articles may include topics related with social media influencers (Youtubers, Tiktokers, instangramers and so on), fact-checkers, crypto miners and bitcoin traders, digital nomad workers, online gamers and videogame-items dealers, delivery-platform app workers, social media platforms sellers, among others. Propositions that address (i) the economic and cultural influence of theses economic activities in the regional and international content-consumption market, (ii) novel digital professions as a mechanism to surpass economic and social exclusion, and (iii) externalities, genre barriers and legal and ethical controversial issues, are particularly welcome. Dear all, the Department of Political Science, Law and International Studies of the University of Padova is hiring *1* *research assistant (assegno di ricerca, 12 months) *in the context of the PRIN 2022 project: *Digital Sovereignty in Comparative Perspective: State Authority, Corporate Power and Fundamental Rights in Cyberspace. * This grant is activated to respond to the *goals of WP 2: Data Collection and Analysis*.
