Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope you submit! ----- The current approach to cybersecurity is primarily focused on purely technical measures, such as firewalls, antivirus software, and encryption. However, this approach has proven insufficient in preventing social forms of cybercrime and online fraud. Moreover, despite these technical measures, users remain vulnerable to social engineering tactics, such as phishing and pretexting. We need to understand the human component of cybersecurity to develop effective interventions. Furthermore, the internet is completely integrated into our lives, and its many benefits come with risks and threats. For example, people may receive phone calls from someone claiming to be their bank or receive text messages requesting money for various reasons. In this special issue, we aim to promote experimental evaluations that focus on the human factor of cybersecurity, with the goal of developing evidence-based strategies to mitigate these threats. The main objective of this special issue is to promote experimental evaluations that focus on the human factor of cybersecurity. By doing so, we hope to achieve a better understanding of the interventions that can be implemented to reduce the susceptibility of users to cybercrime and online fraud. Specifically, we aim to investigate the effectiveness of these interventions and identify the building blocks that contribute to their success. In the face of the growing threat of cybercrime, it is important to identify strategies that can prevent victimization without resorting to overly cautious measures such as identifying all incoming emails as phishing attempts or avoiding clicking on any links altogether, even legitimate ones. We aim to explore the range of strategies available and identify those that are most effective in slowing down the decay rate of intervention. Overall, this special issue seeks to contribute to the development of evidence-based strategies to mitigate the human factor in cybersecurity. To gain insight into ways to counter susceptibility to cybercrime and online fraud victimization, the Human Factors in Cyber Security Experiments research topic welcomes experimental studies. We aim to collect studies that contribute to the design and development of countermeasures that will lead to effective interventions that protect users from online attacks with the goal/aim to make the internet a safer place. We welcome empirical articles studying any of the mentioned or other aspects of Human Factors in Cyber Security Experiments. We will also consider theoretical articles that review advances or present interesting and novel perspectives on the topic. Given the difficulties surrounding the study of the phenomenon, we would also be interested in collecting ideas about possible methodologies that could be applied to its investigation. Hello A, We have an opening for a fully-funded PhD position and a three-year post-doc position to join the politics, digital technologies and governance research group at the the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) at the University of Postdam in Germany. Located in beautiful, leafy Potsdam, but also with easy commuting distance of Berlin, the HPI is an interdisciplinary research institute focused on computer science and digital technologies. While initially focusing on IT, computer science and digital engineering, the institute is rapidly expanding its research within the social sciences (as they intersect with digital technologies). We are particularly interested in research proposals that sit within or are similar to the following research themes: - political communication as it intersects with digital technologies, for instance, misinformation and online opinion manipulation; - digital and technological data collection and surveillance by states and/or corporations; - information power, computational propaganda and information warfare; - technology governance and policy, either from a state or a corporate perspective; - the changing nature of citizenship in the Internet age, including online social movements and the drivers of political activity. The widespread integration of AI into surveillance technologies within the realm of public safety has become increasingly prevalent, exemplified by the likes of biometric and emotional recognition, anomaly detection, DNA banks, crowd control, round-the-clock monitoring, and other forms of data-intensive surveillance. This phenomenon prompts crucial inquiries into its effects on the human experience. Call for Papers Professional Wrestling Studies Journal Special Issue: Queer Studies and Professional Wrestling Anticipated Publication: Volume 5, April 2025 Guest Editors: CarrieLynn D. Olson, and Hannah Steele Purpose: Articles that explore the intersection of queer studies and professional wrestling studies to address a scholarship gap on the application of queer theory to explore professional wrestling individuals, texts, practices, and fandoms. Submissions: Seeking empirical articles aligned with purpose that may include, but is not limited to, the following topics: * Queer representation * Queer narratives * Queer fans and fanworks * Queer performance * Queer form * Queer identity * Corporate social responsibility and queer communities * Professional wrestling as a queer space Deadlines: Two possibilities with this topic. First, we are seeking completed articles by the end of December, 2023, that could be included in the upcoming Volume 4, April 2024. Dear Colleagues, We cordially invite you to submit you work to Springer Collection on Discovery Internet of Things Special issue on Unlocking the Potential of Internet of Things through Edge Computing and Artificial Intelligence The Internet of Things (IoT) has allowed any type of device to be connected to the Internet and exchange data with other devices and the traditional Internet infrastructure. This has allowed the introduction of myriads of new applications covering practically every aspect of our life. IoT has revolutionized the service offering by making existing applications more intelligent, while empowering vendors, manufacturers and service providers to reinvent their product portfolio. However, to fully reap the benefits of IoT and grant the so called fourth industrial revolution, there are a number of challenges to be resolved. IoT networks are characterized as low power and lossy networks, while IoT devices are limited in terms of computational resources and energy capabilities. Edge Computing has been proven to be a viable solution for IoT by repositioning computational and communication resources closer to the IoT devices. However, the amalgamation of IoT and Edge resources is still facing serious problems of how the resources should be scheduled and allocated to serve the unprecedented data generated from the numerous of IoT applications that may coexist. At the same time, the focus has shifted from a simple connection aspect to a data one. IoT data are the core component of the applications, which help in automating their operation and extract meaningful knowledge for the IoT users and providers. Thus, Artificial Intelligence approaches will be an inherent component of next generation IoT systems. AI can be used to predict user and device behaviors, data generation models, and network communication conditions to maximize the benefit of an IoT/Edge Computing interplay. Finally, recent trends in cellular communications as 5G and 6G are targeting IoT networks through the new massive machine-type communication models. Accordingly, other challenges arise in terms of scalability, integration of Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and network slicing with the IoT and 5G and beyond paradigms and so on.
