The Popular Culture Studies Journal<https://www.mpcaaca.org/popular-culture-studies-journal> is seeking authors to review works on any aspect of American or international popular culture. Specifically, we are interested in reviews of recent (i.e., published within the last two years) scholarly monographs or anthologies and general interest books examining all areas of popular culture from a variety of perspectives. We will also consider older seminal pieces that deserve a second look. For a list of books to review, please visit Booklist for Reviews<https://www.mpcaaca.org/about-5>. In addition, we are soliciting reviews of films, videos, websites, games (both digital and analog), theater, or any other popular works that have been published, released, performed or posted in the last two years. Once again, we will also consider older seminal works that deserve a second look. We only ask that reviews of popular media texts highlight how such works might be used in pedagogical or scholarly situations. If you wish to review a popular media text, you must submit a brief rationale for the relevance of the review. A short paragraph outlining why you think the text is worthy of review in the journal will suffice. Reviews should adhere to the ethos of the Popular Culture Studies Journal, meaning they should be largely positive with any criticism of the work being constructive in nature. Dear Colleagues, James Slotta encouraged Sahana Udupa and Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan to discuss their book, Digital Unsettling on the CaMP anthropology blog. https://campanthropology.org/ Best, Ilana Press blurb: The revolutionary aspirations that fueled decolonization circulated on paper—as pamphlets, leaflets, handbills, and brochures. Now—as evidenced by movements from the Arab Spring to Black Lives Matter—revolutions, protests, and political dissidence are profoundly shaped by information circulating through digital networks. *Digital Unsettling* is a critical exploration of digitalization that puts contemporary “decolonizing” movements into conversation with theorizations of digital communication. Sahana Udupa and Ethiraj Gabriel Dattatreyan interrogate the forms, forces, and processes that have reinforced neocolonial relations within contemporary digital environments, at a time when digital networks—and the agendas and actions they proffer—have unsettled entrenched hierarchies in unforeseen ways. *Digital Unsettling* examines events—the toppling of statues in the UK, the proliferation of #BLM activism globally, the rise of Hindu nationalists in North America, the trolling of academics, among others—and how they circulated online and across national boundaries. In doing so, Udupa and Dattatreyan demonstrate how the internet has become the key site for an invigorated anticolonial internationalism, but has simultaneously augmented conditions of racial hierarchy within nations, in the international order, and in the liminal spaces that shape human migration and the lives of those that are on the move. Digital Unsettling establishes a critical framework for placing digitalization within the longue durée of coloniality, while also revealing the complex ways in which the internet is entwined with persistent global calls for decolonization.

Complexity arises from many factors, including the dynamic environment and the scenarios these systems operate in, demanding and sometimes conflicting requirements in functionality, efficiency, scalability, security, dependability and adaptability, data heterogeneity, as well as the wide range of development methodologies, programming languages and implementation details. The International Conference on Engineering of Complex Computer Systems (ICECCS) is a well-established event that has been held around the world for over 25 years. The goal of this conference is to bring together industrial, academic, and government experts from a variety of application domains and software disciplines, to discuss how the disciplines’ problems and solution techniques interact within the whole system. Researchers, practitioners, tool developers and users, and technology transfer experts are all welcome. SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION Full papers are divided into two categories: Technical Papers and Experience Reports. Technical papers should describe original research, and experience reports should present practical projects carried out in the industry, and reflect on the lessons learnt from them. Short paper submissions describe early-stage, ongoing or PhD research. All short papers will be reviewed by the program committee members, and accepted short papers will be published in the conference proceedings. All submissions will be judged on the basis of originality, contribution to the field, technical and presentation quality, and relevance to the conference. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative technology, revolutionizing various industries, and its significance in Information Systems cannot be overstated. AI-powered systems have the potential to streamline operations, enhance decision-making processes, and drive innovation across organizations. From data analysis to automated processes, AI is reshaping the way we leverage information in the digital age. The relevance of AI in IS extends beyond internal operations. AI-powered predictive analytics enables organizations to forecast trends, anticipate customer needs, and optimize resource allocation. This empowers businesses to adapt swiftly to changing market dynamics, gain a competitive edge, and make proactive decisions. AI algorithms can also detect anomalies and patterns that indicate potential security breaches, contributing to robust cybersecurity measures in information systems. However, while acknowledging the benefits, it is essential to consider the ethical implications of AI in information systems. Ensuring data privacy, addressing bias in algorithms, and maintaining transparency are vital aspects that need to be carefully managed and regulated to foster trust and accountability. In addition to offering an exciting scientific program, CAiSE’24 will feature a best paper award, a journal special issue, and a PhD-thesis award: • Best Paper Award‚ prize EUR 1000 (sponsored by Springer) • A small selection of best papers will be invited to submit enhanced versions for consideration in a special issue of Elsevier Information Systems journal dedicated to this conference. • PhD-Thesis Award • Best PhD thesis of a past CAiSE Doctoral Consortium author (co-sponsored by the CAiSE Steering Committee and Springer) Papers should be submitted in PDF format. Submissions must conform to Springer‚ LNCS format and should not exceed 15 pages, including all text, figures, references, and appendices. Submissions not conforming to the LNCS format, exceeding 15 pages, or being obviously out of the scope of the conference, will be rejected without review. See the guidelines here: https://www.springer.com/comp/lncs/authors.html . The results described must be unpublished and must not be under review elsewhere. Three to five keywords characterizing the paper should be listed at the end of the abstract. Each paper will be reviewed by at least two program committee members and, if positively evaluated, by one additional program board member. The selected papers will be discussed among the paper reviewers online and during the program board meeting. As the review process is not blind, please indicate your name and affiliation on your submission. Accepted papers will be presented at CAiSE’24 and published in the Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) conference proceedings. We invite three types of original and scientific papers. The type of submission must be indicated in the submission system. Each contribution should explicitly address the engineering or the operation of information systems, clearly identify the information systems problem addressed, the expected impact of the contribution to information system engineering or operation, and the research method used. We strongly advise authors to clearly emphasize these aspects in their paper, including the abstract. Technical papers describe original solutions (theoretical, methodological or conceptual) in the field of IS Engineering. A technical paper should clearly describe the situation or problem tackled, the relevant state of the art, the position or solution suggested and its potential‚ as well as demonstrate the benefits of the contribution through a rigorous evaluation. Empirical papers evaluate existing problem situations including problems encountered in practice, or validate proposed solutions with scientific means, i.e., by empirical studies, experiments, case studies, experience reports, simulations, etc. Scientific reflection on problems and practices in industry also falls into this category. The topic of the evaluation presented in the paper as well as its causal or logical properties must be clearly stated. The research method must be sound and appropriate. Exploratory papers describe completely new research positions or approaches, in order to face a generic situation arising because of new ICT tools, new kinds of activities, or new IS challenges. They must precisely describe the situation and demonstrate why current methods, tools, ways of reasoning, or meta-models are inadequate. They must also rigorously present their approach and demonstrate its pertinence and correctness in addressing the identified situation. Sincerely, Maxwell Foxman Assistant Professor of Media Studies and Game Studies University of Oregon | School of Journalism and Communication mfoxman(a)uoregon.edu Description: The University of Oregon's School of Journalism and Communication seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor with a research and teaching emphasis in the area of Immersive Media (IM) Communication and Game Studies. We seek to hire colleagues who will conduct research on and teach about IM technologies (augmented, virtual, and extended reality – AR/VR/XR) and/or digital gaming spaces through the lenses of strategic communication, design, marketing, and their impacts and effects on users and culture. IM sits at the intersection of a variety of emerging interactive and immersive social, entertainment, and communication technologies, ranging from artificial intelligence to live streaming, that require rethinking the professional and social boundaries of media industries, practitioners, etc. For example, the intersection of AI and Web3 platforms use XR technology, require novel interfaces and modes of communication, and are currently being explored to a large degree in massively multiplayer online games like Fortnite and Roblox. Hires would bring the following key contributions to our faculty: 1. Expertise in theories and concepts pertinent to immersive media and game studies in regard to fields of communication, design, marketing, human-computer interaction, journalism, or affiliated fields. 2. A related specialty, such as the study of identity, digital cultures, emerging media industries and economics (XR, cryptocurrency), e-sports, fan studies, digital asset production, content creation, human-machine communication, strategic communication, and media psychology. 3. A capacity to teach in our new online Immersive Media Communication master's program, our new Game Studies minor, and/or required coursework at the SOJC, such as media ethics, gender, media and diversity, and introduction to media studies. This hire will join our growing body of scholars studying and teaching immersive media and game studies, including the launch of the Immersive Media Communications program in the fall of 2023, which will be conducted in collaboration with the Oregon Reality (OR) Lab and the Immersive Media Lab (IML), both of which focus on experiential learning and research regarding the ethical use of immersive media and their social, cultural and professional impacts. These positions would also directly serve the new Game Studies minor, which focuses on training media professionals in the culture and communication of games. These positions would have important synergies with the Strategic Communication MA program and the Public Relations and Advertising areas, with interest likely from MMJ and Journalism as well. Faculty members would also ideally strengthen SOJC's ties to other units on campus, including existing collaborations with CAS (e.g., the annual Data|Media|Digital Graduate Symposium), the campus-wide New Media and Culture Certificate program for graduate students, the ethics minor in philosophy, and UO's Data Sciences Initiative, through a practical orientation to ethical issues in society. Finally, ideal candidates will have strong potential to mentor undergraduate and graduate students as well as strong potential for and commitment to contributing to a culture of inclusive teaching and evidence of valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion. Equally important, this position will have the opportunity to collaborate with industry in the "Silicon Forest" of Portland, Oregon, where both corporations are already utilizing and innovating with these emerging technologies. The candidates would be encouraged to take advantage of the university's existing partnerships to bring the industry and storytellers into the classroom while driving thought leadership as immersive media and gaming evolve.
