Dear Colleagues: We are organizing a history of AI track at next year’s Human Choice and Computers (HCC) conference, which is organized by IFIP Technical Committee 9 (TC 9). The overall conference theme is “Humans, Technological Innovations and Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Consequences.” For 50 years, HCC has provided a forum for researchers who illuminate the role of technology choice in computing. As one of the member groups of TC 9, we are soliciting papers on the history of AI. More specifically, we are interested in how an international perspective can shed light on the current development and future directions of generative artificial intelligence. What were the most important developments related to today’s use of AI? How can international insights improve the historical understanding of AI? In what way did historical choices impact the development of how we define AI today? HCC solicits full conference papers for consideration (3,000 to 5,000 words); selected papers will be published by Springer in a proceedings volume in advance of the workshop. These are my key research questions: 1. What cognitive/psychological states do delivery apps trigger, and 2. Do these psychological states increase occupational safety and health risks? Fellowship Details CARGC postdoctoral fellows work on their own research while also participating in and leading ongoing research projects within CARGC. During the fellowship, they present their work as part of a postdoctoral colloquium and work closely with the Senior Research Manager on a plan for publishing their research. There are limited opportunities for teaching that are decided in consultation with Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies. Fellows will receive a minimum stipend of $65,000, commensurate with previous postdoctoral experience. CARGC will also provide a research fund of $3,000, individual health insurance and dependent coverage, a workspace, and a computer in CARGC’s office, and library access. In addition, CARGC will cover $1,000 in domestic relocation expenses and $2,000 if moving internationally. Please note all postdoctoral fellows must submit documentation to demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. Call for Abstracts ICA 2024 Postconference <https://www.icahdq.org/BlankCustom.asp?page=ICA24-NewsIndustries> *News Industries: Funding innovations and Futures* is a one-day ICA 2024 postconference event that will bring together the research community and stakeholders from the news industry to have an open dialogue about what has worked and what hasn’t in developing funding models in the online news environment. *Date:* Tuesday 25 June 2024, 9:00am-4:00pm. *Location:* Kurrawa Surf Club, Gold Coast. Please note there will be a dinner on the evening of 24 June at Kurrawa Surf Club (included in the registration fee). *Deadline for Abstracts:* 1 February 2024 *Topics* The goal of this event is to bring together academics, industry and HDR students to share and learn about innovative funding approaches in journalism through a global comparative lens. We hope to generate a constructive dialogue about solutions to the funding challenges facing the news and media industries locally and internationally. We will be inviting leading academics and industry professionals from news organisations, start-ups, and digital platforms, to ask big questions about the shifting economic and social value of news, including: - Are paid subscriptions a viable model for general news? - Should digital platforms be involved in funding news? - Are governments playing an increasing role in supporting news? - Do we need blue sky approaches to the financial sustainability of news?
