Smart computing is a multidisciplinary domain based on the synergistic influence of advances in sensor-based technologies, Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, edge computing, big data analytics, machine learning, cognitive computing, and artificial intelligence. Applications of smart computing can be found in different societal domains including, but not limited to, transportation, energy, environmental protection, smart and connected communities, healthcare, banking, industrial systems, entertainment, and social media. Department of Media Studies & Production Klein College of Media and Communication Temple University Tenure-Track Assistant Professor The Department of Media Studies and Production in the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in ethnic popular media and technology. The start date for the position is July 1, 2022, with an expectation that the successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. in Communication or related field by that date. We seek candidates working in media studies as it intersects with Black digital culture or Latinx/Latine media and popular culture. Suggested secondary areas include diaspora studies, postcolonial theory, infrastructure/institutional studies, ethnomusicology, and critical race studies Applicants working within qualitative, historical, or anthropological research frameworks or methods are especially encouraged to apply but all methodologies and approaches are welcome. The successful candidate will teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, contribute to a college-wide Ph.D. program, develop courses within areas of expertise, and participate as a citizen of the department, college, and university. The Department of Media Studies and Production (MSP, http://klein.temple.edu/msp) has about 600 undergraduate majors in three tracks: Media Production, Media Business, and Media Analysis. The department also offers a minor in Digital Media Technologies, a 4+1 program and an M.A. in Media Studies and Production. Other research interests include racial representations in videogames, black women and weblogs, whiteness, and technoculture. His award winning book, *Distributed Blackness: African American Cybercultures* was published by NYU Press in 2020 and offers insights into understanding Black everyday lives mediated by networked technologies. We seek candidates with skills and demonstrated research expertise in data science areas such as machine learning, text as data, large-scale computing and networks. Candidates must possess a Ph.D. and have a record of research and teaching commensurate with Associate Professor rank at Georgetown. Advanced Assistant Professors will also be considered. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader eager to make interdisciplinary connections across the Georgetown data science research community.
