Here are some details about the Journal and the forthcoming issue: *About the Journal* The *Journal of Interactive Technology and Pedagogy* (JITP) seeks scholarly work at the intersection of technology with teaching, learning, and research. We are interested in contributions that creatively take advantage of the affordances of digital platforms and critique their limitations. We invite both textual and multimedia submissions employing interdisciplinary and innovative approaches in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Besides scholarly papers, the submissions can consist of audio or visual presentations and interviews, dialogues, or conversations; creative/artistic works; manifestos; or other scholarly materials, including work that addresses the labor and care considerations of academic technology projects. *Upcoming Issue with a Forum on Teaching in the Time of the COVID-19 Pandemic* Normal teaching and learning processes are occurring amidst difficult and confusing times: the ever-intensifying impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the acute awareness of racial and social injustices exposed during its rippling aftermath, all of it compounded by the looming emergency of climate disasters threatening to dismantle entire communities. Even so, instructors and students have adapted to such circumstances, many relying on digital tools to replace face-to-face instruction. This featured section will showcase submissions addressing the challenges and innovations in interactive technology and pedagogy that have emerged in the midst of crisis. For the upcoming issue, we will accept both general submissions on any topic within the field, as well as contributions destined for a subsection featuring conversations on teaching in the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. communication +1 is seeking proposals for Volume 8, “Crises and Communication" Edited by Zachary McDowell, Peter Royal, and Justin Raden Notwithstanding the current situation, periods of crisis and upheaval exacerbate inequities in our communication infrastructure and throw into sharp relief the profound barriers to access. In such fraught moments, we can glimpse the extent to which our systems of mediation differentially serve and confound us according to our positionality within these systems. To understand the effects of crises on communication, it is important to consider the history of systems of mediation that have both limited and encouraged access, participation, and equity across knowledge, space, and culture. What have crises, both present, perpetual, and past, intimated about flaws, gaps, and inequities in systems of communication that are overlooked or disregarded under “normal” (if “normal” exists) conditions? How might we think about how infrastructure relates to the crises and thus the infrastructures of communication are the infrastructures of communication in/justice? How and why are people and communities affected differently in these crises, and how do systems of communication and mediation both mitigate and compound these phenomena? Questions of meaning making, truth, misinformation, and access are welcomed within our new collection. In particular, bringing new context and contextualization (whether philosophical, historical, archeological, rhetorical, ecological, or otherwise) to query contemporary crises of communicative access issues are welcome. Please submit short proposals of no more than 500 words by January 10th, 2021 to communicationplusone(a)gmail.com. Upon invitation, full text submissions will be due April 5th, 2021, with expected publication in August, 2021. Legal challenges for research

Dear all, probably, you have seen the latest reports of Zoom shutting down a panel on Zoom censorship or Facebook's cease and desist letter to the NYU's political ad targeting project. I am interested whether there are more examples of legal challenges for researchers. I am particularly interested in issues revolving around GDPR and social media research, contract law and data collection from services such as LexisNexis or others, and terms of use and platforms. I am also interested in the role of university DPO's in reviewing research design, and the infrastructure or the modus operandi put in place (or not) by universities to enable researchers to comply with GDPR, and the legal support (or the lack of it) universities provide for their researchers to carry out their tasks. The Popular Culture Studies Journal is seeking authors to review works on any aspect of American or international popular culture. Specifically, we are interested in reviews of recent (i.e. published within the last two years) scholarly monographs or anthologies and general interest books examining all areas of popular culture from a variety of perspectives. We will also consider older seminal pieces that deserve a second look. got ethics? Two ethics panels tomorrow!

At least, this is the primary starting point of the approaches to developing ethics guidelines for internet research since the inception of AoIR - i.e., that enculturated human beings in general and practitioners in particular bring to the tables of ethical reflection and deliberation our extensive experience and capacities for ethical judgment and decision-making. Our dialogical processes have further involved applied ethicists, philosophers of technology, cross-cultural perspectives, any number of colleagues in the social sciences, humanities, mathematics, computer science, network engineering - you name it - issuing in, among other things, three documents on internet research ethics that have often proven to be centrally useful to both researchers and ethics review boards around the globe. Moreover, the AoIR conferences have included attention to ethical matters beyond internet research ethics: this year, in particular, the CFP included Power, justice and inequality in digitally mediated lives; Life, sex, and death vis-a-vis social media; and Political Life online. As many of you know/recall, this year inaugurates a new collaboration with the Journal of Information, Communication and Ethics in Society (JICES) and AoIR. The aim is to encourage the development of papers and then articles appropriate to the JICES' foci on social and ethical issues evoked in "the planning, development, implementation and use of new media and information technologies." I'm very pleased to note that the CFP evoked a terrific series of papers that will be presented tomorrow, October 29, in two panels: Theoretical and Practical Research Ethics: Three Cases (12.00-13.00 UTC) Legal and Ethical Perspectives on (Big) Data, Platforms, AI and Algorithms (15.00-16.00 UTC) If you browse the titles and abstracts, you'll find a wide diversity of topics and approaches that will all but certainly overlap with one or more of the ethical matters of interest, if not compelling urgency, to you and yours, whether as practitioners and/or human beings and citizens in the contemporary worlds.
