========================================================================================================== REFRESH 2020 (ONLINE) 1st International Workshop on Real-life modeling in 5G networks and beyond - IEEE DCOSS 2020 ========================================================================================================== Due to the pandemic, DCOSS 2020 Workshops will be held in an ONLINE manner, without physical attendance. Still, all accepted papers will be included in the IEEE Proceedings as planned, in the same volume with the main event. Reduced registration fees will apply. Scope and Overview: The economic and societal potential of emerging 5G and cyber-physical social systems is vastly greater than what has been realized so far, and major investments are being made worldwide to develop the corresponding science and technology. The Future Internet paradigm, the proliferation of emerging networks and architectures, wireless access technologies and multi-homing smart devices are evolving towards a competitive environment, where users and devices have access to various resources, while their behaviors become strongly interdependent. This fact demands and motivates the development of user-centric resource management and optimization frameworks, which enable user's self-optimization and autonomy. This vision is further motivated and supported by the convergence of various emerging technologies enabling Cyber-Physical Systems operation, including 5G/B5G technologies, Internet of Things (IoT), Mobile Edge Computing and Software Defined Networking, all targeting flexibility and efficiency. To deal with the involved complexity, and driven by the requirements of autonomy and scalability, distributed resource orchestration approaches appear as a necessity rather than a desire. The REFRESH Workshop aims at to stimulate research on the most novel topics of real-life modeling in 5G networks and beyond. This year's edition encourages submission of theoretical and experimental work (including studies of real deployment), with a primary interest in new directions of wireless networking in concrete application scenarios and demonstrators in areas such as, but not limited to: mobile edge computing, Internet of Things, cyber-physical systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, public safety networks, dynamic spectrum utilization, smart grid communications, wireless power communication, green wireless networks, information-centric wireless networks. The workshop seeks original work presented in the form of research papers describing new research and development approaches and results, as well as work-in-progress papers. Highly disruptive work-in-progress and position papers are also welcome, provided they focus on particularly innovative solutions or applications for 5G networks and beyond. All papers shall be forward-looking, describe their relationship to existing work, and shall argue their impact and implications for ongoing or future research. Selected workshop papers will also be considered for publication in a Special Issue and/or Special Sections of international peer-reviewed journals. RCIS 2020 features a new track entirely devoted to presenting results and perspectives of research projects (e.g. H2020 or ERC projects, national grants) in the context of Information Science. This track features a good opportunity for both presenters to disseminate the results of their projects, and for participants to get an updated view of ongoing research while getting in touch with potential research partners. The Research Projects @RCIS Track follows a two-step publication process. Firstly, the authors should submit a 2 pages paper summarizing the objectives of the project and relevant results. Each submission will be peer reviewed on the relevance of the submitted paper in the context of RCIS. If the paper is accepted, the authors will have to register to the conference in order to present their work at the Posters and Demos session at RCIS. After the conference, presenters will have the opportunity to submit the presented poster, which will be published in the RCIS 2020 website. No shows will be excluded from the final proceedings. SUBMISSION PROCESS Each submission will be reviewed by at least 2 members of the RCIS scientific committees, and should include: · Project full name, acronym, duration (from-to) and URL · Names of presenter(s) and main contributors · Summary of project objectives and expected tangible outputs. · Summary of current project results Papers shall be formatted according to the Springer LNCS/LNBIP conference proceedings template. To ensure uniformity, we have prepared ready-to-use templates for Word and LaTeX which are available on the conference web site. References and appendices must be included within the 2 pages. These experience and practical reports need not contain original research, but must be an accurate, complete and, where applicable, evidence-based account of the technology or system used. Submissions will be judged on quality of review and level of analysis, and the applicability of the results to other democracies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Track on Posters and E-Voting System Demo Chair: Rønne, Peter (University of Luxembourg, Luxembourg) We invite demonstrations of electronic voting systems, to be presented in an open session on Tuesday 6 October before the welcome reception. Participation is open to all conference participants, but we request a Short Paper (two pages) by 15 September submittted via Easychair describing the system’s requirements and properties, such as: - whether the system is intended for use in controlled (i.e. in polling stations) or uncontrolled environments (i.e. remotely via the Internet or in kiosks); - which types of elections it accommodates; - whether it addresses the needs of voters with disabilities; - what sort of verifiability it provides; - the extent to which it guarantees vote privacy; - whether it has been deployed in a real election; - where to go for more information. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- PhD Colloquium Chairs: Driza Maurer, Ardita (Zentrum für Demokratie Aarau ZDA/ University of Zurich, Switzerland) and Iuliia Krivonosova (Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia) The goal of the colloquium is to foster understanding and collaboration between PhD students from various disciplines working on e-voting. To this end, the program allows plenty of space for discussion and initiating collaboration based on presentations by attendees. Each interested participant should submit his/her research proposal (or alternatively ideas for papers, open problems, or other issues where feedback from colleagues would be helpful etc.) on the shaper of a short paper (two pages length) using the conference platform. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Format of the Conference The format of the conference is a three-day meeting. The PhD Colloquium and the Posters and Demo Session take places on the day before the formal conference begins. No parallel sessions will be held, and sufficient space will be given for informal communication. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paper-based Submissions Paper-based submissions may be in one of two formats - either as a full paper or as an abstract. - Full paper submissions (max 16 pages in LNCS format all in); - Short Paper submissions (max 2 pages in LNCS format all in). All submissions will be subject to double-blind review. Submissions must be anonymous (with no reference to the authors). Colleagues, Fast Capitalism will have a section in issue 17.2 entitled "Capitalism, Coronavirus, and Crushing College as We Know It." It emphasizes the deployment of digital networks to educate. Massive changes are afoot in academia as a result of COVID-19. Fast Capitalism<http://fastcapitalism.com/> would like your critical thoughts on the way the quick move to online education will change higher education for everyone. The special section of Fast Capitalism will appear in issue 17.2 due out in September/October 2020. We're witnessing how crisis capitalism has a way of massively shifting our day-to-day existence. The fact that so many are willing to create online course materials without compensation or course reductions speaks to hegemony. Antonio Gramsci argued hegemony is so powerful because we consent to the processes that oppress us and/or others. We're consenting to a change in the education system. In the past, Many academics fret about the move to online teaching. However there are benefits. There is a huge benefit for single parents who work full-time but want to finish their education. Or people with crushing anxiety who feel uncomfortable in a traditional classroom setting. Or people who travel for their job, but want to receive a college degree. This move online to deal with coronavirus does not affect those students in any direct way. What is happening is a massive amount of unpaid labor to convert our in-person classes online without any resources. There is no information about what happens to these materials you develop after you develop them. Developing novel course materials on your own and handing them over to the university has been a hard-fought issue over the past two decades. What happens when the crisis is over? Do we return to normal or will we have lost control of our intellectual labor? Will universities decide that if it worked during a crisis, it can work any time? Will we be shut down during other periods because our students succeeded through the coronavirus shut down? How will freebies given by education corporations adjust the new norms?
