On *June 29-30, 2020*, the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture at Loughborough University (United Kingdom) will host the sixth conference of the International Journal of Press/Politics, focused on academic research on the relation between media and political processes around the world. Professor Young Mie Kim from the University of Wisconsin will deliver a keynote lecture. A selection of the best full papers presented at the conference will be published in the journal after peer review. The deadline for submission of abstracts is *March 13, 2020*. Attendees will be notified of acceptance by *March 20, 2020*. Full papers based on accepted abstracts will be due *June 12, 2020*. The conference brings together scholars conducting internationally-oriented or comparative research on the intersection between news media and politics around the world. It aims to provide a forum for academics from a wide range of disciplines, countries, and methodological approaches to advance research in this area. Examples of relevant topics include the political implications of current changes in media systems, including the increasing role of digital platforms; the importance of digital media for engaging with news and politics; analysis of the factors affecting the quality of political information and public discourse; studies of the role of entertainment and popular culture in how people engage with current affairs; studies of relations between political actors and journalists; analyses of the role of visuals and emotion in the production and processing of public information; and research on political communication during and beyond elections by government, political parties, interest groups, and social movements. Help with digital ethnography & early Internet history

Hi AIR folks, Long-time follower, first-time emailer! I'm a PhD candidate in Media Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. I study the men's rights movement, using interviews, ethnography, archival research, and textual analysis. I'm currently looking at both pre-digital and digital materials, and trying to unpack how the movement "came online" around the 1990s. I'm reaching out to elicit some advice, recommendations, and help with a few challenges I'm encountering: 1. Can anyone recommend good sources on early Internet history, particularly with regards to gender? I'm especially interested in how and when "regular" people started to adopt Internet technologies. I've found some interesting evidence in print materials from the early 1990s that show men's rights activists transitioning to online spaces, but I'd like to historicize and contextualize what I'm seeing. 2. I'd like to start doing some "digital ethnography" via Twitter. My university's IRB liaison suggested I build a simple webpage where I can explain my research, have my consent form, etc. and link to it in my Twitter profile/tweets to meet IRB's standards for consent with human subjects. However, given the population I study, I'm concerned about personal safety, doxxing, harassment, etc. I don't want to be paranoid, but I also don't want to be naive about putting my personal information into the digital sphere via an easily-hackable webpage. Any advice or recommendations on digital security or how to go about digital ethnography with "difficult" populations be most appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Lexi de Coning

We, the Emergent Markets Welfare Project and the Text and Data Mining Competence Centre of the European Commission are organizing the workshop on Automated Extraction of Socio-political Events from News (AESPEN) at the Language Resources and Evaluation Conference (LREC 2020) [1]. There is a shared-task, which is about Event Sentence Coreference Identification (ESCI), organized in the scope of this workshop as well. For information about the workshop, the shared task, and any updates, please check the workshop web page [1]. The detailed description of the shared task is on [2]. The test data will be shared with the participants a week before the deadline.
