Graduate Student Opportunity: Applications are Now Open for the 2020 Milton Wolf Seminar on Media and Diplomacy Emerging Scholars Fellowship This is a wonderful opportunity for current graduate students studying International communication. Selected fellows receive full funding to attend the Milton Wolf Seminar in Vienna this April. Initiated in 2001, the annual Milton Wolf Seminar<https://miltonwolfseminar.wordpress.com/2020-seminar/> in Vienna, Austria explores cutting edge issues related to media and diplomacy. It is designed to bring together a diverse group of individuals representing multiple perspectives and nationalities. Attendees include: diplomats, journalists, academics, NGO professionals, and graduate students. The University of Pennsylvania Annenberg School for Communication, The American Austrian Foundation (AAF), and the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna(DA) have jointly organized the seminar since 2010.The 2020 Seminar will take place from April 20-22 and explore the theme: "The Evolving Role of Media in Diplomacy." Each year the seminar organizers select approximately 10 outstanding advanced MA candidates, PhD students, law students, post docs, or equivalents studying areas related to the seminar theme to serve as Emerging Scholar Fellows. Selected Fellows receive economy class airfare, accommodation, and a food and local travel stipend, which covers all costs of attending the Seminar. Borders, bordering and sovereignty in cyberspace *Call for Papers for RGS-IBG Annual Conference, London, 1-4 September 2020* Sponsored by: Digital Geography Research Group (DGRG) Session organisers: Dr Chenchen Zhang (QUB) and Carwyn Morris (London School of Economics) National borders continue to operate in the digital space despite predictions otherwise. Scholars have argued that the global communication space and the nation state are both oppositional and co-constituting forces in internet governance. Cyberborders are produced through, for instance, regulatory systems, jurisdictional assertions, censorship regimes, and discourses of cyber sovereignty and cyber security. While governments draw on concepts of sovereignty and national security to assert control over a virtual space that seems essentially borderless, civil society actors have also sought to put forward ideas of digital sovereignty along the lines of freedom and self-determination. This session aims to address theoretical and empirical questions regarding processes of (de)bordering and (de)territorialization in cyberspace. How are the concepts of sovereignty, territory, and borders reproduced and transformed in the context of the digital? What are the emerging patterns of power and contestation with regard to the control over data and information flows? We especially welcome contributions that engage with critical perspectives on the concepts of sovereignty, territory, and borders such as those focused on performance, discourse/practice, and governmentality. Papers might explore the following themes: * The production of digital territories and borders through legal, technological, and other means * Firewalls, censorship regimes, internet disruptions * The territorialization of services, infrastructure and populations * Concepts and discourses of cyber, digital, and data sovereignty * The geopolitics of data and internet control * Cyberborders and data protection law * How borders and practices of territorialization in cyberspace are contested * The impact of territorialization and bordering on populations * Conceptual and theoretical contributions * Contributions beyond methodological nationalism We encourage panellists to present in a creative method, not limited to a formal paper presentation. The session will consist of 4-5 papers, a strictly enforced 15 mins each to enable time for question and answers. Guidelines will be provided for accepted panellists. Whilst we would love to see you in London, we support Skype presentations and pre-recorded video presentations, as long as the presenter can engage in the Q&A. four new climate change news coverage datasets: online news and television

For those interested in exploring how climate change has been covered online and on television, we have just released four new open datasets relating to global news coverage of climate change over the past decade. Dear colleagues, I am pleased to announce the publication of my book *Digital Mediascapes of Transnational Korean Youth Culture* (Routledge). https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/9780429469251 Drawing on vivid ethnographic field studies of youth on the transnational move, across Seoul, Toronto, and Vancouver, this book examines transnational flows of Korean youth and their digital media practices. This book explores how digital media are integrated into various forms of transnational life and imagination, focusing on young Koreans and their digital media practices. By combining theoretical discussion and in depth empirical analysis, the book provides engaging narratives of transnational media fans, sojourners, and migrants. Each chapter illustrates a form of mediascape, in which transnational Korean youth culture and digital media are uniquely articulated. This perceptive research offers new insights into the transnationalization of youth cultural practices, from K-pop fandom to smartphone-driven storytelling. A transnational and ethnographic focus makes this book the first of its kind, with an interdisciplinary approach that goes beyond the scope of existing digital media studies, youth culture studies, and Asian studies. Unlike static studies of networked work, we look at how changes in these networks affected researchers' performance and influence. Using the number of publications as an indicator of productivity and the number of citations as an indicator of influence, we investigate when researchers were more productive and influential. We study whether their networks were cohesive, if the researchers were central in their networks or linked to central players, and whether their work had more opportunities to be disseminated through diverse, non-redundant ties. Although the connectedness of their networks was positively associated with the researchers' productivity, it was the non-redundant effective size of the networks that was positively associated with the researchers' influence.
