In 2020, the Symposium is going to happen in Rennes, France. ISCC sessions will include presentations on new research results and tutorials. Papers describing original work are invited in any of the computer and communications areas that the Call for Papers considers. Accepted papers will be included in the ISCC 2020 Conference Proceedings, which will be subject to independent peer-review procedures for quality, and may be eligible for inclusion in the IEEE Xplore(r) Digital Library. It has been widely accepted that digital ecosystems have a 'language and geocultural diversity' problem - at present they have a strong bias towards firstly English, and then a small group of (mostly European) languages. A series of initiatives has attempted to address this imbalance in a variety of ways, whether driven by practice (language diversity guidelines, multilingual toolkits, open data repositories, and endangered languages archives) or theory (biocultural diversity, digital modern languages and translingual/transcultural critiques). This two-day workshop brings together leading researchers, educators, digital practitioners, language-focused professionals, policy makers and other interested parties to address the challenges of multilingualism in digital spaces and to collectively propose new models and solutions. The workshop will combine both conceptual (strategy, policy and theory) and practical perspectives (digital ecosystems, methods and tools with a focus on language). It aims to strengthen connections between numerous overlapping digital and languages-driven conversations and initiatives. The core themes of the workshop are: * Linguistic and geocultural diversity in digital knowledge infrastructures * Working with multilingual data * Transcultural and translingual approaches to digital study * Artificial intelligence, machine learning and NLP in language worlds The programme will feature a variety of formats, including lightning talks, posters, demos, roundtables and (a limited amount of) mini-workshops, and we welcome proposals for experimental formats. Invited speakers will represent a range of education, industry and third sector roles and we are open to new ideas through our call for proposals. The workshop is aimed at those interested in multilingual and cross-cultural approaches to digital practice, and is likely to be of particular interest to those working in the areas of: modern languages and linguistics; multilingualism research (including endangered or minority languages and community languages); digital cultural heritage; digital humanities; new media and internet research; critical digital infrastructure studies; digital policy; translation studies; AI, machine learning and NLP. Co-convenors This workshop is led by the Language Acts and Worldmaking project with the support of the Cross-Language Dynamics: Reshaping Community project, both funded by the AHRC under its Open World Research Initiative. On *June 29-30, 2020*, the Centre for Research in Communication and Culture at Loughborough University (United Kingdom) will host the sixth conference of the International Journal of Press/Politics, focused on academic research on the relation between media and political processes around the world. Professor Young Mie Kim from the University of Wisconsin will deliver a keynote lecture. A selection of the best full papers presented at the conference will be published in the journal after peer review. The deadline for submission of abstracts is *March 13, 2020*. The conference brings together scholars conducting internationally-oriented or comparative research on the intersection between news media and politics around the world. Help with digital ethnography & early Internet history

Hi AIR folks, Long-time follower, first-time emailer! I'm a PhD candidate in Media Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. I study the men's rights movement, using interviews, ethnography, archival research, and textual analysis. I'm currently looking at both pre-digital and digital materials, and trying to unpack how the movement "came online" around the 1990s. I'm reaching out to elicit some advice, recommendations, and help with a few challenges I'm encountering: 1. Can anyone recommend good sources on early Internet history, particularly with regards to gender? I'm especially interested in how and when "regular" people started to adopt Internet technologies. I've found some interesting evidence in print materials from the early 1990s that show men's rights activists transitioning to online spaces, but I'd like to historicize and contextualize what I'm seeing. 2. I'd like to start doing some "digital ethnography" via Twitter. My university's IRB liaison suggested I build a simple webpage where I can explain my research, have my consent form, etc. and link to it in my Twitter profile/tweets to meet IRB's standards for consent with human subjects. However, given the population I study, I'm concerned about personal safety, doxxing, harassment, etc. I don't want to be paranoid, but I also don't want to be naive about putting my personal information into the digital sphere via an easily-hackable webpage. Any advice or recommendations on digital security or how to go about digital ethnography with "difficult" populations be most appreciated. Thanks and best regards, Lexi de Coning
