Across an array of social media platforms – from Twitter and Facebook to Instagram, Snapchat, Tumblr, Pinterest and YouTube (and this list could be extended to games use and even fitness sharing) – we have had a proliferation of ways and means to present oneself publicly. This pandemic change is having repercussions across the social (Marshall, 2016), political (Marshall and Henderson, 2016) and cultural world (Marshall, 2015b) as a *presentational media and cultural regime* continues to be on ascendance. Participants should leave with one or more action plans for essays they can write, and how they can publish those essays. *More*: http://cmc-centre.com/workshops/nyc2017/ *CALL FOR PAPERS* In broadcast journalism, the notion of the ‘TV academic’ is rare but important with the origins related to the Fourth Estate’s veritable position as critical government watchdogs. Similar in nature to questions on conflating the journalist with celebrity in popular discourse are those surrounding the academic and celebrity. In his case, Birmingham City University professor and broadcaster David Wilson discovered, “The greatest tension is the growing perception by some members of the public that I am a celebrity, rather than an academic.” At the same time, he notes that the benefits of being a public scholar greatly outweigh the downsides. Mainstream TV uses social media to augment its reach, facilitating dialogues between actors and viewers. These dominant tactics further engage by mitigating the role of perceived mediators between celebrities and their on-screen personas. In an analogous way, more conversations that include academics are crucial in mainstream TV. Without them, redefining or redesigning efforts that stimulate critical faculties in the collective mind and make for good citizenry become lost amidst the noise of what postmodern French philosopher Jean Baudrillard once characterized as an era of “more and more information, and less and less meaning”. So how can an academic produce a TV show or offer television appearances while disregarding stereotypical trappings associated with the ‘celebrity academic’? How can these efforts be accomplished in ways that preserve the integrity of the academe yet also cater to mass audience within one’s area of scholarship? What are some ethical tactics and key platforms in which these voices are best and most widely heard? Web-based systems, social networks and multi-agent systems very often need these tools for working out consistent knowledge states, resolving conflicts and making decisions. ICCCI 2017 is the 9th edition of the conference organized by the University of Cyprus and Wroclaw University of Science and Technology in Poland, in cooperation with the IEEE SMC Technical Committee on Computational Collective Intelligence. The aim of the conference is to provide an internationally respected forum for scientific research in the computer-based methods of collective intelligence and their applications in (but not limited to) such fields as group decision making, consensus computing, knowledge integration, semantic web, social networks and multi-agent systems. Instructions to Authors Prospective authors of papers are invited to submit contributions for presentations at ICCCI 2017. The submissions should present the results of original research or innovative practical applications relevant to the conference topics. Practical experiences with state-of-the-art in CCI methodologies are also acceptable to reflect lessons of unique value for the conference attendees. Contributions should be original and not published elsewhere or intended to be published during the review process. The conference language is English. The conference proceedings of ICCCI 2017 will be published in the prestigious Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence series by Springer and indexed by ISI(CPCI-S), Web of Science, EI, Scopus, DBLP, ACM Digital Library. All submissions should follow the LNCS/LNAI style and not exceed 10 pages. At least one full registration is required for each accepted paper in order to be included in the ICCCI 2017 proceedings. If you do qualitative research and e.g. cite tweets, it's useless to anonymize (as Michael states). If you do quantitative research the findings will be so abstract that individual users will be hard to trace, but not impossible depending on the number of variables and the number of userhandles. Still, anonymizing is fairly easy when you have the data in a statistical program such as SPSS, R or even Excel: replace the userhandles with a unique number (from 1 to N). Then remove the userhandles from the dataset. Still I would advice always to keep a secure file with both keyvariables userhandles and the new identifyer for future resrearch. Hope this helps. Topics to be explored from theoretical as well as practical perspectives include, but are not restricted to, the following: * The role of governmental institutions in technological unemployment * Jobless future: is unconditional basic/universal income the answer?* Social, political, and economic approaches to welfare in a jobless future* New ethical dimensions of work originating from the technological unemployment crisis* Political and social inequality created by a jobless future* Strategic plans for skills, education, re-deployment for the technologically jobless* The political control of technological unemployment* Welfare, leadership and jobless future* Technological displacement vs technological innovation from the perspective of social welfare* Historical visions on the ethical impacts of workload reduction* Creating new values for a jobless future* Political values in welfare and technological disruption in the job market* Work as human value* Conflicting values in a jobless world (for ex., the refugees crisis in the EU)* Religious values and technological unemployment Brief for contributors: In line with the editorial aims of the journal, this call for papers focuses specifically on the relationship between ethics, welfare, and values implicated in the policies and political strategies on the one hand and technologically-driven unemployment on the other. The editors welcome academic papers which are interdisciplinary in character. Contributions may combine wider ethical and theoretical questions concerning technology-driven unemployment with practical considerations leading to social policies and professional practices (especially the existing and future policies of local/national governments and international institutions, such as EU, UN, WTO to cope with the problems of technological joblessness). The special issue, as with other issues of the journal, welcomes material in a variety of formats, including high quality peer-reviewed academic papers, reflections, debates and commentaries on policy and practice, book reviews and review articles. Academic papers should be between 4-7,000 words long, and practice papers should be between 750-2,500 words long. Practice papers will be considered for publication by the editors. I used the trial version of http://www.talkhelper.com/ as a quick solution in an emergency. It worked well, and also recorded separate voice and video files if I remember correctly. Not free (after the trial - so I stopped using it), but it was efficient.
