Here is the blurb for the course: This course will provide students with practical training in social media network analysis using two software packages: the VOSON System (a web-based application for hyperlink network construction and analysis) and NodeXL (a free Excel 2007/2010 template for social network analysis). The main focus will be on quantitative analysis of Internet trace data from websites, blogsites, Twitter and Facebook. While there will be a lot of emphasis on network analysis (e.g. WWW hyperlink networks, friend/follower networks in Twitter, buddy networks in Facebook), text analysis will also be covered. There will also be an introduction to using Virtual Worlds (e.g. Second Life and Massively Multiplayer Online Games) for social research. This scenario is changing the traditional view of security introducing new service security risks and threats, and requires re-thinking of current development, testing, and verification methodologies. IWSSC 2011 aims to address the security issues related to the deployment of services on the Cloud, along with evaluating their impact on traditional security solutions for software and network systems. The workshop seeks submissions from academia and industry presenting novel research on all theoretical and practical aspects of security of services implemented on the Cloud, as well as experimental studies in Cloud infrastructures, the implementation of services, and lessons learned. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Security in Cloud services * Software verification in critical services * Static code analysis of software services * Test-based verification of services * Authentication and access control on the Cloud * Challenges in moving critical systems to the Cloud * Cybercrime and cyberterrorism on the Cloud * Communication confidentiality and integrity * Data security and privacy on the Cloud * Formal methods for the Cloud * Homeland security * Information assurance and trust management * Intrusion detection on the Cloud * Model-based validation of services * Orchestration and choreography * RESTful service security * SOAP security * Security certification of services * Security metrics on the Cloud * Security models and architectures * Security patterns for the Cloud * Security protocols on the Cloud IMPORTANT DATES Paper submission due: June 1, 2011 (midnight Samoa time) Notification to authors: July 11, 2011 Camera-ready due: July 21, 2011 SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS Submissions must not substantially overlap papers that have been published or that are simultaneously submitted to a journal or conference/workshop with proceedings. by Yago De Quay 02 Apr '11

02 Apr '11

Dear all, I'm about to finish my masters in Multimedia and thinking about my next step. Does any one know of any schools that currently have openings for fully funded PhD in *media, arts and technology*? Particularly interested in programs with a strong musical/sonic backbone. My previous work has been with music performances using a motion capture suit (video<http://yagodequay.com/2011/03/29/dance-jockey-perfomance-at-mostra-up/>). I'm only aware of a few programs that are open at the time. Internet and Emotions - cfp
by Eran Fisher 02 Apr '11

02 Apr '11

2nd call for chapters/ Deadline April 15, 2011 Edited book on Internet and Emotions. Research Network 11 of the European Sociological Association (Sociology of Emotions) is engaged in editing a series of books that will focus on various aspects of emotions in society. The intended volume on *Emotions and Internet* is part of this endeavor. It emerged out of discussions in recent conferences and the interest of members of RN 11 in studying the interplay between new forms of virtual environment enabled by the internet and emotions. The book will collect cutting-edge articles that deal empirically and theoretically with internet and emotions, as well as make an attempt to map and theorize this emerging scholarly field. * * During the last couple of decades, at least two novel processes that are of interest to our planned project have been evolving. The first is the penetration of the Internet into virtually every sphere of social life. From friendship, dating, and shopping to economic, political, cultural, and social practices, from social networking to virtual conferencing, no aspect of life as we knew and understood it has remained unaffected. It can be claimed that the Internet is no longer just another tool that people use, but an environment within which people operate and live. The second development that has occurred during these two decades has been the advent of the sociological study of emotions. Theoretical and empirical scholarship has refined our understanding of emotions and the emotional world and has demonstrated that emotions are present in every aspect of social life and play an important role in central processes and structures. The purpose of the present book is to explore the emotional aspects and processes occurring within this new socio-virtual environment. As new emotional practices emerge, new emotional feed-back loops are built, and new emotional language and manifestations crystallize on the Internet, we need to study them empirically and to theorize them. There are ample examples of possible questions. For example, the phenomenon of flaming has received attention among communications scholars but the general question of the language of emotions that is evolving on internet communication has not been explored before. Or the question of feeling rules and emotions display rules in the virtual world; the ways in which anonymity and disembodiment affect the disclosure of emotions on the Internet; the differences and similarities among various genres of CMC as far as the expression of emotions is concerned, etc. are yet to be explored. We are seeking both theoretical and empirical contributions that focus on issues that emerge at the intersection of emotions and Internet at three levels of social organization: The micro level, of the individual and dyadic relations; the mezzo level of groups, organizations, social movements and community, and the macro societal, transnational networks level. Internet and media scholars dealing with some aspect of emotions are particularly welcome to submit their work. Please submit abstracts of no more than 300 words to Dr. Tova Benski via email: tbenski(a)colman.ac.il Deadline for submission: *April 15 2011.* * * *Tova Benski, Dept. of Behavioral Sciences College of Management Rishon Leziyon, Israel* * * *Eran Fisher, Kreitman School for Advanced Graduate Studies * *& The Department of Communication Studies * *Ben Gurion University, Israel * -- Eran Fisher, PhD Postdoctoral Research Fellow Kreitman School for Advanced Graduate Studies & The Department of Communication Studies Ben Gurion University, Israel ד"ר ערן פישר עמית מחקר פוסט-דוקטורט בית הספר ללימודי מחקר מתקדמים ע"ש קרייטמן והמחלקה לתקשורת אוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב --- *Media and New Capitalism in the Digital Age*.
