Come join fellow AoIRers Ewa Callahan and me at Quinnipiac! - Alex Interactive Media: Full-time Tenure Track Faculty Position The Department of Film, Video and Interactive Media, School of Communications, Quinnipiac University seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure track faculty position in Interactive Communications beginning August, 2011. Primary teaching responsibilities include graduate (on-line and on-campus) courses in the Interactive Communications Master's Program in two or more of the following areas: * Interactive media theory and practice * Visual design for interactive media * Digital video and audio design and production * User experience * Interactive animation * Writing for the interactive media * The design and practice of social media * Social and cultural effects of new media Undergraduate teaching in Interactive Media and other areas may be assigned. Continuing scholarly research/activity and service to the University are required. The successful candidate will combine a progressive design philosophy with excellent technical proficiency and have the following qualifications: * A Ph.D. or Master’s of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) degree in interactive media or related field. The terminal degree requirement may be waived for applicants with an M.A. or M.S. who exhibit a documented record of extraordinary film, video or interactive media skill and professional accomplishment. * Professional experience in interactive communication or related fields * A mastery of interactive tools and technologies. * A body of work which demonstrates a solid understanding of design principles that are used online and in other interactive environments. The evolution of large technological systems. In Bijker, W. E., Hughes, T. P., and Pinch, T. J., editors, The Social Construction of Technological Systems: New Directions in the Sociology and History of Technology, number x, 405 p, pages 51-82. MIT Press. ...Star, S. L. (1999). The ethnography of infrastructure. American Behavioral Scientist, 43(3):377-391. Although a quick search at any journal database should give you a more comprehensive and updated results, those are still a good place to start. Narratives in Games

Hey everyone, We are looking for possibilities to offer a two-day workshop for your students, and local developers. I am part of CIN, an organization that offer workshop and consulting to game developers in creating narrative content (when I am not working in the academia). We build this work on extensive experience from working with manuscript in film, TV and interactive media. Although what we offer is not a workshop on how to write long manuscripts and translate these to gameplay. What we instead offer is a method that explain how to structure the work in producing narrative content that have the capability to engage the gamer in creating her own stories. What we are looking for are universities that have an interest in offering these workshop to their students, or inviting local game developers to join the workshop.
