If you have trouble viewing or submitting this form, you can fill it out online: https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dGNQZGVLNUQ3SHhxYXU3ZjZsS3… QDAP/Texifter Foul Language List We are compiling a list of oaths, dirty words, racist and sexual derogatory and other offensive terms to build new language models and software tools. The notable increase in public and private threats communicated via the Internet to Congress and the White House makes it important to do basic research that identifies the precursors of aggressive or violent behavior. Adding your uniquely offensive contribution to the list, with an associated rating from 1-7, with 1 representing a mildly offensive term and 7 representing the most foul term, will advance this work. We are not collecting any data about the people submitting items to this list. The process is anonymous. The research is jointly sponsored by QDAP & Texifter, LLC and directed by Dr. Stuart Shulman, QDAP Director and Texifter President & CEO. http://www.umass.edu/qdap/ http://texifter.com/ Insert your word * Rate the word 1-7 (1 = least & 7 = most offensive) * Powered by Google Docs Report Abuse - Terms of Service - Additional Terms

New book: Digital Advertising
by Andrew McStay 30 Nov '09

30 Nov '09

Hi - just a quick note to let you know about my new (and first sole authored!) book. Titled "Digital Advertising", published by Palgrave-MacMillan in paper and hardback (www.palgrave.com/PRODUCTS/title.aspx?PID=295747) it offers an overview of: the business of digital advertising, formats and platforms, dataveillance and advertising, user perceptions, relevant law and regulation in the US, Europe and UK, and lastly discussion of creativity in digital advertising. It's written so as to be student friendly but also picks up on many of the key debates that many of us are looking at in regards to the nature of dataveillance, political-economy and immaterial labour within web 2.0, and web 3.0 discourses and practices. Whilst there has been a fair amount of discussion of digital advertising from journals such as the Journal of Interactive Advertising, and more traditional advertising and marketing journals, there has been little in the way of books and discussion from media, cultural studies and wider new media theorisation. This book attempts to bridge the divide between business, critical, cultural and creative conceptualisations. That's the sales pitch anyhow! Best wishes to all, Andy Dr. Andrew McStay Senior Lecturer MA Marketing Communications University of the Arts London London College of Communication Faculty of Media Elephant & Castle London SE1 6SB Blog: http://advertising-communications-culture.blogspot.com/

Book > Mobile Learning In Higher Education
by McKiernan, Gerard [LIB] 29 Nov '09

29 Nov '09

Colleagues/ A Major / Major > New > Must-Read > Open Access > Book ! /Gerry Jan Herrington, Anthony Herrington, Jessica Mantei, Ian Olney and Brian Ferry (editors), _New Technologies, New Pedagogies: Mobile learning In Higher Education_, Faculty of Education, University of Wollongong, 2009, 138p. ISBN: 978-1-74128-169-9 Preface While mobile technologies such as mobile phones, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and digital music players (mp3 players) have permeated popular culture, they have not found widespread acceptance as pedagogical tools in higher education. The purpose of this e-book is to explore the use of mobile devices in learning in higher education, and to provide examples of good pedagogy. We are sure that the rich variety of examples of mobile learning found in this book will provide the reader with the inspiration to teach their own subjects and courses in ways that employ mobile devices in authentic and creative ways. This book is made up of a collection of double blind peer-reviewed chapters written by participants in the project New technologies, new pedagogies: Using mobile technologies to develop new ways of teaching and learning. The book begins with an introductory chapter that describes the overall project, its aims and methods. The second chapter describes the professional development process that was used for the teacher participants involved in the project. This is followed by 10 chapters, each describing a mobile learning pedagogy that was employed in the context of a subject area within a Faculty of Education. The final chapter presents guidelines or design principles for the use of mobile learning in higher education learning environments. We wish to acknowledge the support provided for the project on which this book is based by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, an initiative of the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations. This research was also funded by generous support from the Office of Teaching and Learning at the University of Wollongong. Where have all the cyberfeminists gone - gone to ning.net everyone (; -))
by Radhika Gajjala 28 Nov '09

28 Nov '09

Hi all, I recd some abstracts and emails expressing interest already. The deadline for abstracts is still December 30th - but in case some of you wanted to join conversations as the work develops come to http://cyberdivadotorg.ning.com ______ Title: Where have all the cyberfeminists gone? Editor: Radhika Gajjala _______ Submit Abstracts/proposals to radhika(a)cyberdiva.org by December 30 2009. Abstracts should be 1000 words long and should clearly detail the primary research questions, research site(s), theoretical framework and methodology. If you have questions about publication plans and venue for this collection - email me. _____ Call: As Faith Wilding and Critical Art Ensemble have noted "the territory of cyberfeminism is large. It includes the objective arenas [of] cyberspace, institutions of industrial design, and institutions of education--that is, those arenas in which technological process is gendered in a manner that excludes women from access to the empowering points of techno-culture." Cyberfeminism necessitates an awareness of how power plays out in any mediated context and privileges decentered, multiple, participatory practices. In the 1990s, several scholars and activists came forth with Cyberfeminist interventions and analyses of technocultures worldwide and their work connected with that of well known Feminists such as Donna Haraway, Sandra Harding, Katherine Hayles and Vandana Shiva among others. This collection is meant to be an exploration of what it means to be cyberfeminist now - more than a decade after Feminists burst forth onto the Internet scene demanding material access and social intervention both online and offline. What for instance does it mean to be “cyberfeminist” in a time when women are everywhere on the internet as consumers and as paid and free laborers? How does cyberfeminism play out in relation to forms of social entrepreneurship and online philanthropy (such as microfinance for instance)? What role to feminists play in a digital era of social networks, gaming cultures and digital finance when claims are made that feminism is no longer necessary? How do race, class, place, space, ethnicity, religion and nationalisms play into how women negotiate various technomediated environments online and offline? Or, in other words – where have all the cyberfeminists gone? Where are they going... -- Radhika Gajjala Professor of Communication Studies and Cultural Studies Interim Women's Studies Director 2009-2010 233 Shatzel Bowling Green State University Bowling Green, OH 43403 http://personal.bgsu.edu/~radhik
