Colleagues, We're still finalizing a few details but PRESENCE 2009, the 12th Annual International Workshop on Presence, in the Marina Del Rey area of Los Angeles November 11-13, looks to be a particularly rich and rewarding conference. In addition to a diverse group of interesting paper presentations, we'll have several demonstrations of telepresence technologies, true knowledge building and synthesis discussion sessions, invited speakers, social events including a conference dinner, and a combination of academic and professional perspectives throughout and in three outstanding keynote speakers: Barbara Hayes-Roth, an internationally recognized expert in intelligent agents and interactive characters; Howard Lichtman, founder and President of the Human Productivity Lab, an independent consultancy covering telepresence and effective visual collaboration industries; and Albert "Skip" Rizzo, Research Scientist and Research Professor at the Institute for Creative Technologies and Department of Psychiatry/School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California who conducts research on the design, development, and evaluation of Virtual Reality systems for clinical assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation. who is utilising a reseach website for their qualitative research?

Hello everyone, Sor far I was a quite passive member of this great list, but hope this will change now. I am a qualitative researcher utilising the Internet for empirical material collection. For my research I developed a research platform which is basicly a community platform offering blogs and fora to my participants. In my research I am exploring tourist's perceptions of climate change and how this influences their travel decisions and experiences. My participants to some degree already talked about this topic on their own travel blog or within a travel community which they are a member of. At this stage I just started some email interviews with first participants and will start the online discussions on my platform soon. As a qualitative online researcher I am fairly lonely in my department/shool(/university?) and would like to connect with other researchers who use a similar approch for their research. It would be great to exchange some experiences or receive some references if the research has been published. On behalf of the Local and Program Chairs, and the CATaC Executive Committee, we are very pleased to pass on to you the Call for Papers for CATaC (Cultural Attitudes towards Technology and Communication) 2010, "Diffusion 2.0: Computing, mobility, and the next generations". Venue: University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada Dates: 15-18 June 2010 CATaC'10 will feature keynote addresses by Dr Linc Kesler (First Nations Studies, The University of British Columbia) and Dr John Willinsky (Stanford University School of Education). The CATaC conference series provides a premier international forum for current research on how diverse cultural attitudes shape the implementation and use of information and communication technologies (ICTs). The conference series brings together scholars from around the globe who provide diverse perspectives, both in terms of the specific culture(s) they highlight in their presentations and discussions, and in terms of the discipline(s) through which they approach the conference theme. Original full papers (especially those which connect theoretical frameworks with specific examples of cultural values and practices) and short papers (e.g. describing current research projects and preliminary results) are invited.
