MEA Convention 2013: problematic dates

I assume that the MEA board is aware that the timing of next year's MEA Convention in Michigan (June 20-23) is somewhat problematic. The ICA conference will be held in London from June 15-19, so that anyone attending there will have a hard time making it back to Michigan in time for the MEA -- assuming that once overseas, the ICA attendees tend to stay on for a mini-vacation in our former "Motherland". A maximum of two submissions per author will be accepted. Authors who wish their papers to be considered for the Top Paper or Top Student Paper award must indicate this on their submission(s). All submissions will be acknowledged. The convention site, approximately 15 minutes by taxi from the Gerald R. With the list you are guaranteed that everyone gets everything thereby avoiding the "research polarisation hypothesis". There is also a reasonably clear and exhaustive archiving system which can be organised in different ways. Re. All abstracts, completed papers, and panel proposal submissions, etc., are welcome, but priority will be given to submissions that touch upon or align with the convention theme. A maximum of two submissions per author will be accepted. Authors who wish their papers to be considered for the Top Paper or Top Student Paper award must indicate this on their submission(s). All submissions will be acknowledged. The convention site, approximately 15 minutes by taxi from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport, is located in the heart of Grand Rapids, Michigan at Grand Valley’s downtown campus. It has an assortment of hotels and a wide range of places to eat, from inexpensive eateries to fine restaurants, all within a few city blocks. Accommodation and excursion information is forthcoming. Guidelines for Submission For Manuscripts: 1. Suggested length of manuscripts is 15 to 25 double-spaced pages (4,000–6,000 words). 2. This is a one‐year term, non‐tenure track appointment that begins September 1, 2012 and concludes June 30, 2013. With funding from the MacArthur Foundation the Engagement Game Lab, http://engagementgamelab.org<http://engagementgamelab.org/>, has partnered with the Boston Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics to establish a research agenda around the city’s civic technology projects. This researcher will be responsible for maintaining an active research agenda, co‐authoring a white paper on civic media in the city of Boston, and teaching one course per semester in the Visual Media and Arts Department at Emerson College. A Ph.D in communications, media studies, or related field is required (ABDs will be considered). The ideal candidate will have experience with qualitative research in the areas of civic engagement, mobile media, serious games, civic media, and or community‐based technologies.
