Every good delphi usually has a knoweldge structure tailored to the nature of the complex problem it is examining. This morphology for a specific problem is a "visualization of text" morphological analysis is one source of a method to construct such visualizations.. check the application chapter of the Delphi method book on my website for examples. same for many computer medicated communications systems designed for specific communities of practice. Dear Mina, The University of York, UK is putting together a conference about this very topic! Advances in Visual Methods for Linguistics (AVML) focusses on sharing language visualisation techniques and tools, from elicitation to analysis to presentation. Our website is here: http://avml2012.wordpress.com/ To more directly answer your question, AVML has been building a collection of datavis-related links: http://delicious.com/stacks/view/EzbWin I think you'll find some visually stunning examples of how others have applied their language data. I hope you find some good examples there! Object Oriented Ontology Sources Re: Question: Likeconomy and the [digital] verbing of nouns
by Guiseppe Getto 22 Apr '12

22 Apr '12

All, I got enough interest in the object-oriented ontology conversation that I mentioned in response to Ravindra's question, that I think I will burden the list with it. Here's a lit review from a colleague of mine who specializes in this conversation. I would also add anything by Manuel DeLanda might be of particular interest to members of this listserv, as he comes out of a computer programming/visualization background. An Amazon search of his name comes up with all his main works. I would highly recommend his "New Philosophy of Society: Assemblage Theory and Social Complexity" for a readable, impactful treatise on this move from a purely linguistic view of digital and/or social systems to a neo-realist view that takes into account the materiality of these systems. Conference Web Site: http://www.epsrcham.org.uk/SKIMA2012/index.htm We are calling any paper aiming at addressing issues of user experiences and enterprise systems. Here are hour track description and web address. http://www.epsrcham.org.uk/SKIMA2012/track8.htm The deadline is 30th April. We look forward to seeing you in Chengdu, China! Honglei * User Experience and Enterprise Systems Co-Chair: Honglei Li, NorthumbriaUniversity, honglei.li(a)northumbria.ac.uk Jian (Jeff) Guan, University of Louisville, jeff.guan(a)louisville.edu Ahmad Alibabaei, Shahid Beheshti University, Babaei(a)Gmail.com Xin (Robert) Luo, The University of New Mexico, Luo(a)mgt.unm.edu **Description:* Last decade has experienced a burgeoning growth of diversified social software including social networking software like Facebook, LinkedIn, and SecondLife. Smartphone interface such as IOS and android through iPhone and various other brands brings new perspective on human computer interactions. Users have been through completely new experience with computer interface and information systems in mobile and social networking applications. However, most enterprise systems such as ERP systems are still using the legacy user interface which is complex to learn and hard to navigate. With the fact that next generation growing up with the social media interface, their views and attitudes on user interfaces of ERP systems will be different from the current generation. Their interactions with the enterprise systems with legacy interface will be challenging. Big ERP provider such as SAP has already started their strategic plan to shift toward this direction. SAP is implementing a social media strategy to shift the perception of their ERP software from the company level to the individual level. Their recent plan to acquire Syclo, a leading provider of enterprise mobile applications and technologies, indicates their strategic move the enterprise software to the social level. Should the enterprise systems be changed to meet the emergent needs of next generation? What's the relationship between the enterprise systems and user experience? Many interesting issues should centre around interactions of this new user experience based on social media software between the experiences of enterprise systems with legacy interface. This track aims at discussing various issues between user experiences and enterprise systems. We welcome high quality papers on the topics of, but not limited to, the following areas: - Interaction methods of Enterprise systems - Enterprise systems' manual or documentation - Ease of use of enterprise systems - User experience requirements analysis for enterprise systems - Influence of stakeholder's interest on their experience - The relationship between user experience and employee productivity of enterprise systems - Case study of user experience of enterprise systems - User interface analysis of existing enterprise systems such as ERP and BPM systems - Development issues of enterprise systems user interface - User interface design of enterprise systems based on user experience - Social media integration with enterprise systems - Graphical design of enterprise systems - Social experience of enterprise systems - Social identity in enterprise systems - Internal and external factors influencing user experience All submissions will be evaluated for novelty, significance, and soundness. Papers should clearly state the purpose, theory, methodology, results, possible practical implications of the study, and be fully referenced with appropriate international citations. -- 李红蕾 Dr. Honglei Li ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Senior Lecturer in Enterprise Information Systems School of Computing, Engineering, and Information Sciences Northumbria University 34 Pandon Building Newcastle Upon Tyne NE2 1XE Tel: +44 (0)191 243 7830 Fax: +44 (0)191 243 7630 E-mail: honglei.li(a)northumbria.ac.uk

Call For Paper: Special issue of iCS on the Internet, Social Networks and Civic Engagement in Chinese Societies abstract due May 15
by wenhong chen 22 Apr '12

22 Apr '12

Dear colleagues, Hope your semester is winding down well. Sorry for crossposting. A reminder that the deadline for submitting an abstract for Information, Communication & Society (iCS) special issue on social networks and civic engagement in Chinese societies is May 15. Please see details below and attached. Cheers, Wenhong ********************* CALL FOR PAPERS ********************* The Internet, Social Networks and Civic Engagement in Chinese Societies A Special Issue for Information, Communication & Society (iCS) Guest editor: Wenhong Chen Aim and Scope The Internet and digital media have become conduits and locales where millions of Chinese share information and engage in creative expression and social participation. The Arab Spring and the relative lack of response in China highlight the importance of understanding the Internet implications in specific social context. Yet, compared to their growing prevalence and significance, research on the contingent, non-linear, and sometimes paradoxical impacts of digital media and technologies in Chinese societies remains theoretically underdeveloped and empirically understudied. Taking an eclectic approach, this special issue aims to advance a balanced and context-rich understanding of how digital media and technologies afford the construction of social networks and participation in civic engagement in Chinese societies including mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, and the global Chinese Diaspora. It aims to reveal both the transformative power and the limitations of the Internet and other new communication technologies. It welcomes work with diverse theoretical and empirical approaches. Contributors are encouraged to examine the implications of the Internet and other new communication technologies for social networks and civic engagement, including but not limited to: . How do digital technologies and media allow actors to form and maintain social networks on- and offline? . What are the patterns and structure of Chinese social networks straddling boundaries of geography, identities, and issues in the Internet age? . How do access to and memberships in such networks vary by class, gender, generation, urban-rural gaps as well as differential digital media skills and literacy? . How does digital mediated communication contribute to an informed, connected, and engaged public in Chinese societies? . To what extent do digital media and technologies facilitate transparency and enhance the visibility of oppressed groups, in particular in comparison with print and broadcast media under tighter government control? . To what extent do glocalized, transnational networks affect access and mobilization of resources for social development and change? Logistics and Timeline . A 300-500 word abstract should be sent via email to the special issue editor by May 15, 2012. . Initial screening decisions will be made by May 30, 2012. . Authors of accepted abstracts should submit a full paper to http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/rics by August 15, 2012. . Authors must specify that the submission is for the special issue on The Internet, Social Networks and Civic Engagement in Chinese Societies. All submission will be subject to the journal's standard peer review process. Authors should follow the Information for Contributors of Manuscripts as published in iCS website. Information about the journal can be found at www.informaworld.com/ics . The special issue will be published in September 2013. . CfP on Mediated Urbanism
by Zeller Frauke TU Ilmenau 21 Apr '12

21 Apr '12

CALL FOR PAPERS A special Double Special Issue of the International Communication Gazette to be published by Sage Publishers on 'Mediated Urbanism' With sections on Designing the Urban Stages & Urban Audience Activities Guest Editors: Seija Ridell (University of Tampere, Finland; COST Action ISO906 WG3) Frauke Zeller (Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada; COST Action ISO906 WG3) Deadline for abstracts: May 31st 2012 URL to the full CfP: http://www.uk.sagepub.com/repository/binaries/doc/GAZ_cfp.docx Designing the Urban Stages section (CfP 1 below) focuses on the planning and design aspects of contemporary digitally embedded and media-saturated cities. Urban Audience Activities section (CfP 2 below) focuses on the diversity of audience activities in the multi-spaced and multiply scaled contemporary cities. The multiple and multiply divided nature of urban reality has deepened in novel ways through the development of networked digital technologies. The use of portable media devices in particular has rendered urban space increasingly multi-layered, as people may interact with their physically absent communities and visit online places while being on the move in the city. At the same time, through their smart gadgets, people are integrated with the software-supported urban infrastructure which grows out from an equally invisible but nevertheless material global techno-rhizome. This makes them active though not necessarily self-reflexive contributors to the dynamics of spatial power that today conditions the forms of urban communication and agency. The contemporary urban setting has started in recent years to increasingly fascinate scholars and practitioners as a context for people’s media relations. However, there is, as yet, little research on how the complex processes of city planning and design shape the digitalized and media saturated city and how these processes articulate and are entangled with power relations. Nor is there much research on the ways people shift between various media and technology related modes of action while dwelling in and moving about the city. In this double special issue Mediated urbanism of the International Communication Gazette, which follows up on the 2008 ICG special issue on Communicative Cities (edited by Gary Gumpert and Susan Drucker), we wish to address the digitally sustained urban environment in terms of public life. Our approach in the issue is to combine the perspectives of city planning and design, on the one hand, with the perspective of people’s activities as urban audiences, on the other. We welcome and strongly encourage for both interrelated sections contributions that foster dialogues across disciplinary boundaries. Important Dates: - Abstracts (600-800 words and to include author’s professional status and institutional affiliation) submission: May 31st 2012 - Notifications of acceptance: June 30th 2012 - Full manuscript submission: September 15thth 2012 Submissions (abstracts and full manuscripts), in English, should be sent electronically as Word documents to Seija Ridell (email: seija.ridell(a)uta.fi<mailto:seija.ridell@uta.fi>) and Frauke Zeller (email: fzeller(a)wlu.ca<mailto:fzeller@wlu.ca>). Manuscripts should include an abstract of 100-150 words, with a suggested target of 8000 words (including notes and references) and include 8-10 key words. For specific manuscript submission guidelines, please go to: http://gaz.sagepub.com/ If you have any queries regarding the suitability of your potential contribution or any other inquiries, please contact the guest editors: Seija Ridell, seija.ridell(a)uta.fi Frauke Zeller, fzeller(a)wlu.ca PD Dr. phil. habil.
