Doctoral Colloquium 2019 Call for Submissions – Paris, France, 13-14 June The International Network on Digital Labour is an association of scholars from a variety of backgrounds working on the different areas related to digital labour. In its desire to integrate young scholars, and to foster collaborations between them and senior members, the network launches its first series of Doctoral Colloquia that will take place during two events in 2019. This call for participants will be for the first one: a half-day workshop that will take place on the second day of a conference hosted by France Stratégie (the French Government policy institute) and other partners in Paris, France , on the 13 and 14 June . The colloquium will welcome MRes, MPhil, and PhD students and candidates in different stages of their research who work on the many aspects of computer-mediated work, platform economies, online value production, automation, and tech-enabled outsourcing. It aims to give junior researchers the chance to interact with other scholars working in similar areas of interest and discuss their current projects, methodological issues, and receive advice on the thesis writing process and career prospects. Please note that, while the registration to the colloquium is free , the network cannot provide for travel funding. The following is a non-exhaustive list of topics for the Paris colloquium: * the gig economy * work in the sharing economy * technology and precarious labour * automation and labour * platform capitalism * freelancing * data as labour * social media and labour * online content creation * playbour * platform co-operativism * technology and the commons. Since participation in the colloquium is limited, interested applicants should prepare a two-page summary of their current project that will indicate their research context, hypotheses or research questions, methods, issues, and progress to date. Dear colleagues, We would like to invite paper submissions to the IUAES 2019 panel on *"Mediating Travel: Digital Media, Tourism, and the Cosmopolitan Self in a Hyperconnected World"*, co-convenedby Regev Nathansohn (Department of Communication, Sapir Academic College) and Christian Ritter (MEDIT, Tallinn University). *Panel title:* Mediating Travel: Digital Media, Tourism, and the Cosmopolitan Self in a Hyperconnected World [Commission on the Anthropology of Tourism] *Short abstract:* Digital media technologies have transformed the relationships between hosts and guests in tourist places. Inviting theoretical and empirical contributions from the global south and north, this panel seeks to gain new understandings of the mutual shaping of cosmopolitan selves and digital media. *Long abstract:* Digital media technologies have profoundly reshaped travel practices and tourist places. The Internet and digital platforms created a new realm of experience within the global tourism industry, transforming the complex relationships between hosts and guests. On the one hand, tourist blogs disseminate travel narratives and visual representations of tourism sites while reconfiguring the manifold tourism imaginaries. On the other hand, tourism organizations adapt to the ubiquitous use of mobile devices in everyday life by circulating more audio-visual content about tourist destinations. In addition to tourism agencies, mobile applications mediate among tourism actors at the global-local nexus. The authenticity of tourism actors, services and objects is increasingly staged on the screens of mobile devices, changing tourism culture in unprecedented ways. From Airbnb to augmented reality apps new possibilities for solidarity between hosts and guests and for the discovery of tourism sites are enabled, and sometimes prevented. Bringing together tourism scholars who ethnographically explore the digitalization of tourism, and digital ethnographers who study the field of tourism, this panel seeks to gain new understandings of the mutual shaping of cosmopolitan selves and digital media. We invite theoretical contributions and empirical case studies on the different roles of digital media in contemporary tourism in the global south and north. In what ways does digitalization reshape cosmopolitan selves and solidarities between locals and tourists? How is the authenticity of subjectivities digitally mediated and interpreted in a context of widening dissemination of fake information? Digital Humanities Postdoc opening at University of Illinois at Chicago

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be hired in conjunction with the Digital Humanities Initiative, a new collaboration between the Institute for the Humanities and the UIC Library. This is a one-year position, with an appointment from 16 August 2019 to 15 August 2020, designed to expose faculty and students to research in digital humanities, and new research methods in that field. The Research Associate will conduct their current research in a vibrant setting of fellows at the Institute for the Humanities; during the year, they will present their research in a public lecture and seminar. In addition, the Research Associate will assist in planning a conference of other digital humanists; consult with faculty and students engaged in, or interested in, digital projects; and provide guidance on building the Digital Humanities Initiative into a sustainable forum for intellectual collaboration. The candidate for the position should currently hold a PhD awarded in 2015 or after (in any field of the arts or humanities), have a strong record of scholarly work in conferences and publication, and have a willingness to participate and take a leadership role in a diverse and energetic scholarly community of students and faculty. Description This year we are proud to celebrate the 23rd consecutive year of the Social Theory in Information Systems Research minitrack. Since 1996, scholars and researchers have presented cutting edge research, using social theory in their work. Please join us in Cancun for this milestone! STIR’19 solicits papers that use social theory in IS research drawing upon such approaches as sociotechnical theory, critical theory, social informatics, and organizational theory. We are interested in highlighting research that critically examines the constitution of information and communication technologies (ICTs), and their roles in communities, organizations, and society. We are particularly interested in research that addresses the main theme of the conference “New Frontiers in Digital Convergence.” We seek work that is innovative in terms of multi- and trans-disciplinary uses of social theory and methodologies to study the digital convergence, and work that focuses on the sociotechnical impacts of new and emerging technologies on people in their organizational and social lives across social and technical boundaries. We are interested in questions about how we interact with ICTs in our work and social lives in ways that help and hinder the move towards more useful, productive, and happier lives. The STIR minitrack has been exploring new frontiers in information systems research for years and we look forward helping you present your work at the conference. Shadow Information Technologies and Practices is a new mini-track in the Organizational Transformation and Information Systems (SIGORSA) track. This mini-track solicits papers that address the socio-technical implications, outcomes, and disruptive nature of shadow information technology (shadow IT) and shadow practices of organizational actors within complex organizations. Shadow IT refers to artifacts that are used or developed within organizations outside of and without the approval and knowledge of an organization’s IT department. Socio-technical shadow practices, also known as feral practices, are those in which organizational actors engage with either shadow IT or existing systems in ways that differ from the expected practices, and which take place unbeknownst to organizational and IT managers. The emergence of shadow IT and practices can have broad socio-technical implications for organizations, including those related to organizational power relations, IT governance, and security. Given the theme of the conference, New Frontiers in Digital Convergence, we are particularly interested in papers that examine the emergence of shadow IT and practices in response to the introduction of new technologies within business and organizations that trend towards digital convergence. In addition to research aligned with the conference theme we are also interested in high quality empirical and conceptual work that uses social theory to study and understand shadow IT and practices. International Conference on Trust & Digital Memories *Should We Trust Our Digital Memories ? We will especially focus on the concept of trust, and the many ways it is related to memory in online practices and interactions. With social media, digital archives and self-tracking apps being new means we use to create and share memories, it is important to ask how and why we tend to trust online platforms and digital devices as repositories of our past. Furthermore, do we tend to trust digital memory more than biological memory, considering it to be more objective and stable? As Victor Mayer-Schönberger assesses: “As digital remembering relentlessly exposes discrepancies between factual bits and our very own human recall, what we may lose in the process is the trust in the past as we remember it.” What are the consequences of this potential shift for the way we make sense of ourselves through our past? How individuals and collectives deal with the increasing volume of their digital memories, as well as with new ways of remembering and forgetting through the use of technology, is a challenging question, the answer to which requires an interdisciplinary approach. The essence of this vision is the creation of data-driven networks saturated with pervasive sensing, computing, and wireless communication that ideally support the needs of individuals, societies and industries. Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological, methodological, or a combination of those. Papers reporting strong data-oriented systems engineering contributions backed by solid and appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged. The impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of the data-related aspects in the pervasive and industrial internet. Research contributions are solicited in all application areas pertinent to industrial and pervasive data distribution, including but not limited to: Data distribution in Industrial Internet, where novel data management techniques can be supported by networking protocols, algorithms and processes, and where intelligent entities can exchange and manage distributed data in order to achieve improved performance for both the cyber and the physical components. Particular areas of interest include: - Data-driven industrial IoT architectures with multiple inter-connected networking technologies - Pervasive data distribution and management algorithms for the Industrial Internet - Networking protocol stacks and standardization for enabling efficient data distribution - Industrial cloud and edge computing, communication and networking technologies - Data-oriented networked control, distributed optimization, and distributed learning - Industrial internet robotics and autonomous systems - Modeling of tightly integrated, data-intensive Cyber-Physical processes, computation platforms, and networks - Data distribution solutions which satisfy the Industry 4.0 requirements Data distribution in Pervasive Internet, where the ambient intelligence of network devices embedded in the environment can provide a constant and unobtrusive data management and distribution.
