The essence of this vision is the creation of data-driven networks saturated with pervasive sensing, computing, and wireless communication that ideally support the needs of individuals, societies and industries. Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological, methodological, or a combination of those. Papers reporting strong data-oriented systems engineering contributions backed by solid and appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged. The impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of the data-related aspects in the pervasive and industrial internet. Research contributions are solicited in all application areas pertinent to industrial and pervasive data distribution, including but not limited to: Data distribution in Industrial Internet, where novel data management techniques can be supported by networking protocols, algorithms and processes, and where intelligent entities can exchange and manage distributed data in order to achieve improved performance for both the cyber and the physical components. Please circulate widely in your networks and consider submitting your work (it is NOT isolated to Nordic researchers even though the network is anchored here). ——————————————— Call for Papers Online disinformation: an integrated view | #1 Defining and Measuring Disinformation Venue: Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies, Aarhus University, Denmark Time: 6-7 May, 2019 DATALAB hosts a conference to kick off the establishment of an interdisciplinary Nordic network of researchers studying online disinformation (NORDIS). The conference focuses on the fundamental problem of observing and measuring disinformation: How can we define and measure online disinformation in a holistic way – without being limited by discipline-specific views? Online disinformation has emerged as one of the most urgent political and democratic issues of recent times. Despite a general understanding of the underlying dynamics behind online disinformation and the availability of generally accepted taxonomies of disinformation, an effective solution is still not available and important aspects are still largely under-researched. Research on disinformation has already made numerous efforts to understand the cultural and the psychological aspects of the phenomenon, but disciplinary specialization has led scholars to focus mainly either on one or the other aspect – resulting in a general lack of conceptual coherence. It is thus becoming more and more evident that a solution to the problem cannot be reached without breaking the boundaries between disciplines. This process will have to involve several fields of research and should not be limited to the academic world, and therefore a proper interdisciplinary approach must be adopted. Organization This is the first of a series of three workshops to be held as part of the initiative “Online disinformation: an integrated view” supported by The Joint Committee for Nordic research councils in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NOS-HS) in an effort to encourage an interdisciplinary approach to the problem of online disinformation. The other two workshops will be held in Oslo (Norway) and Uppsala (Sweden). All workshops aim to gather researchers from media studies, political communication, computer sciences and philosophy as well as actors from outside academia such as journalists and policy makers. The conference will be the first event in NORDIS, the "Nordic network on the study of online disinformation and its effects on civil and democratic processes” and an excellent opportunity to join the network from the beginning. Joan Donovan – Director of the Technology and Social Change Research Project at Harvard Kennedy’s Shorenstein Center – will be a keynote speaker at the conference. Among other things, she leads Data & Society’s Media Manipulation Initiative. Submission of papers Within the context of Defining and Measuring Disinformation, we encourage submissions that address but are not limited to the following aims: * Operational definition of disinformation * Tracking disinformation propagation * Mapping and quantifying disinformation * Data access and format for measuring disinformation propagation * Methods for analysing disinformation at scale We invite 800-word abstracts outlining empirical, theoretical or policy-oriented papers that address these or associated topics. Abstracts should be accompanied by a 100-word biography of the presenter(s) together with contact details. Please feel free to share through your networks. --- *CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: AusSTS Interdisciplinary Workshop* Deakin University Melbourne, Australia 3-5 July, 2019 *Keynotes: * Cordelia Fine, University of Melbourne; Geoffrey Bowker, University of California Irvine To meet the great challenges of this century, scientists and humanities and social science researchers need to work together. No single academic field can bring about the changes we need to see in the world. Bridging disciplinary divides is the key to finding new solutions to the problems we face. The AusSTS interdisciplinary workshop is a multi-day event that seeks to convene conversations between researchers around the complex issues facing science, technology and society today. It consists of workshops, keynote lectures, creative events, and short papers. This symposium is designed for postgraduate students and ECRs researching science and technology and who are interested in 1) exploring new and creative forms of inquiry, 2) developing collaborative practices to further their research. The aim of this collaboration is not to turn scientists into social scientists or humanities scholars or vice versa. Rather, it is to create opportunities for students to share diverse perspectives on common issues. This workshop departs from the traditional symposia format of long papers and short discussion. Participants can expect to present a short paper consisting of a question, problem or provocation, take part in panel discussions and cross-disciplinary dialogues, participate in workshops focusing on collaboration and creative research, as well as field trips. We invite postgraduate students and ECRs from all disciplines and areas of expertise to apply: life, environmental and materials science, social sciences and humanities, artists, social activists, and other practitioners. We want to encourage participants to communicate their research interests in ways that are legible to audiences outside of their discipline and to engage in sustained discussions with a range of publics. Scholars interested in participating are asked to apply by putting forward a proposal for a 5-minute presentation at the workshop. [With apologies for cross-posting] *CALL FOR PAPERS - vista - visual culture journal* *“Visual, digital and media culture: Images among generations”* Social context determined by the culture of media convergence, together with the proliferation of digital devices connected to the Internet and their penetration among citizens, has given relevance, more than ever, to the media and visual culture. Digital media and images have conducted visual field towards the study of consumer´s practices and producer´s image, in accordance with the social aspects and the cultural contexts that characterize them. To the multidisciplinary approach of media and digital literacy, intergenerational issue is added as the starting point of this issue, which seeks to delve into the fact that the media experience occurs in differentiated conditions, characterized by different cultural (media and digital) competences between generations: analogical and digital citizens, emigrants and digital natives. From the family portraits to the selfies of our smartphones, from soap opera and TV series to social networks. Images produced and consumed get increased from a diversity of experiences and memories, from a multiplicity of lifestyles and media uses, which is worth to be rethought from the idea of "generations". Which are the visual environments of socialization for the different generations? What influences do they exercise in their daily lives, in their experience, and in their memory? What is the role of visual and media literacy in the process of understanding the relationship between different generations and the different media? How visual culture contributes to the pedagogical processes? Does the generational perspective contribute for the understanding of the image transformation and impact in contemporaneity? Is the visual culture an approaching element among generations? Which are the more suited proposals and theoretical reflections in the current context? Is the visual culture an inspiring element to favor participative methodologies in this field? Can digital age and its visual culture favor generational barriers? Does the digital visual culture assume an intergenerational perspective? *vista - visual culture journal *is a peer-reviewed journal and operates under a double-blind review process.
