*** CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS *** 27th ACM International Conference on User Modeling, Adaptation and Personalization (ACM UMAP 2019) Golden Bay Beach Hotel 5*, Larnaca, Cyprus, June 9-12, 2019 http://www.cs.ucy.ac.cy/~george/lm/lm.php?tk=YWlyLUwJCQlhaXItTEBsaXN0c2Vydi… Proposals due: December 14, 2018 ACM UMAP 2019, the premier international conference for researchers and practitioners working on systems that adapt to individual users or to groups of users, and which collect, represent, and model user information, is pleased to invite proposals for workshops to be held in conjunction with the conference. The workshops provide a venue to discuss and explore emerging areas of User Modelling and Adaptive Hypermedia research with a group of like-minded researchers and practitioners from industry and academia. In this edition, our goal is to have a balanced workshop program comprising different workshop formats and combining emerging and established research topics. Different full-day and half-day workshop schemas are possible, such as: · Working group meetings around a specific problem or topic; participants may be asked to submit a white paper or position statement. · Mini-conferences on specialized topics, having their own paper submission and review processes. · Mini-competitions or challenges around selected topics with individual or team participation. · Interactive discussion meetings focusing on subtopics of the UMAP general research topics. PROPOSAL FORMAT Workshop proposals should be submitted in PDF format to both workshop chairs, not exceeding 5 pages and organized as follows: · Workshop title and acronym. · Workshop chair(s), including affiliation, email address, homepage, and experiences in organizing such events. · Abstract (up to 300 words) and topics of interest. · Motivation on why the workshop is of particular interest at this time. · Workshop format, discussing the mix of events such as paper presentations, invited talks, panels, and general discussions. · Intended audience and expected number of participants. · List of (potential) members of the program committee (at least 50% have to be confirmed at the time of the proposal). · Requested duration (half day or full day). · When available, past editions of the workshop, including URLs, a brief statement on the development of the workshop series, e.g., in terms of topics, number of paper submissions and participants, post-workshop publications over the years and acceptance statistics. INSTRUCTIONS We encourage both researchers and industry practitioners to submit workshop proposals. Researchers interested in submitting a workshop proposal are invited to contact us in advance, so we can help to design successful proposals. In particular, for workshop proposals with novel interactive formats, we are happy to assist in further developing and implementing the ideas. We strongly suggest to have organizers from different institutions, bringing different perspectives to the workshop topic. We welcome workshops with a creative structure that may attract various types of contributions and may ensure rich interactions. The organizers of accepted workshops will prepare a workshop web site containing the call for papers and detailed information about the workshop organization and timeline. They will be responsible for their own publicity and reviewing processes. There will be a conference adjunct proceedings published by ACM where all the workshop papers will be published. Hence, the workshop organizers will need to adhere to the adjunct proceedings publication timeline. Digital Media Winter Institute 2019 | iNova Media Lab Workshop: Interpreting Cross-Platform Digital Networks 4 - 7 February 2019 I 10:00 – 13:00. Universidade NOVA de Lisboa Lisbon, Portugal We are pleased to announce that it is now open the call for applications to the workshop “Interpreting Cross-Platform Digital Networks”. The workshop is part of the activities offered by the Digital Media Winter Institute <http://inovamedialab.org/winter-institute-2019/>; an annual event organised by iNOVA Media Lab, Universidade de Lisboa. **Workshop: Interpreting Cross-Platform Digital Networks Digital networks offer ways of understanding social and cultural phenomena and network analysis have become a common approach in several fields of research, facilitated by a large list of open source data extraction tools. Whenever we click, see, rate, like, post, download or comment, our digital actions became traceable and ready to be interpreted as nodes and edges in a network. For instance the analysis of retweet chain, hashtags, images or pages in the shape of a network. How can digital networks be read across different platforms? Rather than relying on the use of statistics, this course proposes to approach cross-platform digital networks by looking at the platforms’ vernacular, the relational nature of digital data in tandem with the medium (Rogers, 2013), and the affordances of spacialization algorithms (Venturini et al. 2015; 2017) – namely Force Atlas 2 in Gephi. Addressing this matter, the course will present some guidelines for interpreting cross-platform digital networks by introducing the technique of visual network exploration and conducting practical exercises in network data extraction and analysis. **Skills required Participants are encouraged to prepare for the workshop by making themselves acquainted with the principles of networks analysis and the basics of the desktop application Gephi. It is important to stress that the workshop will focus on exploratory data analysis in Gephi, not on encompassing the process of how to use the software itself. Sample datasets will be provided for the participants, but they are also encouraged to bring their own dataset (originated from different web platforms). Deadline for applications: 20 January 2019. Long papers should present original reports of substantive new research techniques, findings, and applications of UMAP. Short papers should present original and highly promising research or applications. MIS4TEL 2019 9th International Conference in Methodologies and Intelligent Systems for Technology Enhanced Learning - https://www.mis4tel-conference.net 26-28 June 2019, Avila, Spain == CALL FOR WORKSHOPS == The International Conference in Methodologies and Intelligent Systems for Technology Enhanced Learning (MIS4TEL) hosts this year a number of workshops on different TEL-related areas, following the successful initiative launched last year. The aim of the workshops is to provide participants with the opportunity to present and discuss novel research ideas on emerging topics in the scope of the conference. PAPER SUBMISSION AND PUBLICATION Workshop contributions should be either full papers (8 pages) or short papers (4-6 pages); papers must be formatted according to the Springer LNCS template. Accepted workshop papers will be included in the MIS4TEL Proceedings published by the AISC series of Springer Verlag (http://www.springer.com/series/11156) At least one of the authors will be required to register for and attend MIS4TEL 2019 to present the paper in order to have it included in the conference proceedings. Please note that workshop organizers will be responsible for creating and advertising the Call for Papers, managing the review process and collecting the camera ready papers.
