"Critical Digital & Social Media Studies" is a book seried edited by Christian Fuchs on behalf of the Westminster Insitute for Advanced Studies and published by the University of Westminster Press. It publishes books that critically study the role of the Internet, digital and social media in society and make critical interventions. We invite submissions of book proposals that fall into the scope of the series. Deadline: March 1, 2016 The books in the series are published in an open access format available online without payment using a Creative Commons licence (CC-BY-NC-ND) and simultaneously as affordable paperbacks. Hello all, I'm trying to find information about a talk I saw at AoIR last year in Phoenix. I know a woman presented... she might have been from the UK?... she talked about 'data subjectivity' by way of talking about data collected by tracking devices like Fitbits... Does someone remember this presentation/person/talk title, and if so, will you email me the info, please? I'm having trouble accessing the conference program online. I suppose if you have a copy of that, that would probably work, too. Dear Colleagues, The Department of Communication and New Media (CNM) at the National University of Singapore seeks outstanding candidates for three tenure-track Assistant Professor positions, with research that complements our strengths in new media studies. CNM is a dynamic group of researchers who specialize in emergent issues at the intersections of media and communication in today’s digitally networked media environment. We are seeking three individuals with expertise in one or more of the following broad areas: 1) Social media –computer-mediated communication, social and semantic network analysis, big data and computational methods, interaction design and analysis, digital risks and privacy, socially mediated relationships. 2) Critical theory and new media – ICTD, digital rhetoric and digital humanities, cultural studies of new media, political economy of new media, postcolonial theories of new media, new media mobilities, digital Marxist theory, performance studies and new media, new media policies and regulations, digital ethics. 3) New media and political communication – activism, elections and campaigns, power and politics, collective action, social movement, civic engagement, public opinion, political psychology and behavior. The Department is situated within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at NUS, Singapore. It offers degree programs at the undergraduate, masters, and doctoral levels, and is ranked among the top Communication and Media Studies departments globally. (Tele)presence is a state or perception in which we overlook or misconstrue the role of technology and feel present in the environments and/or connected to the people or things we experience via technology. It´s increasingly relevant to a wide range of media experiences and application areas. This preconference will introduce the centrality, pervasiveness, value, and power of presence phenomena, theory and research to scholars and practitioners within and beyond communication and deepen and update knowledge for those already familiar with presence.
